Aindeem – Finasteride 1mg Treatment for Male Hair Loss

What is Aindeem?

Aindeem is a film-coated tablet produced by the pharmaceutical company Accord Healthcare Limited. It is used for the treatment of male pattern hair loss. It is a prescription medication that is taken orally (whole, it must not be broken or crushed).

Aindeem is a licensed medication for the treatment of male hair loss and is licensed by the UK and US medical regulatory bodies, the MHRA and FDA, respectively.

The product is used to prevent and/or stop the underlying cause of androgenic alopecia through the use of once-a-day tablets which contain 1mg doses of finasteride. Finasteride is the active ingredient in Aindeem – the same as is found in Propecia, and in the same 1mg dosage. In larger doses finasteride is used to treat prostate problems such as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

How does it work?

Aindeem’s active ingredient is Finasteride 1mg.

In 1992, Proscar, a daily drug for men over 60 years of age, in which the active ingredient is 5mg of Finasteride, was licensed in the UK for the prevention of Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH). Following this, finasteride was discovered to also help suppress the cause of male hair loss by preventing the development of Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the body, when taken in smaller doses of 1mg.

DHT is a naturally occurring substance known as a Type II ‘5-alpha reductase inhibitor’, which attacks the hair follicles across the top of the head and causes genetic hair loss in those susceptible to male pattern baldness.

Taking Aindeem as directed allows the finasteride contained within the daily tablets to inhibit the formation of DHT. Once this has been blocked, normal hair growth should resume. In this respect, finasteride 1mg operates in exactly the same way regardless of the brand name under which it is sold eg. Aindeem, Propecia, etc.

How effective is Aindeem in treating male hair loss?

The results for men using Aindeem to regrow their hair will depend on their level of hair loss when they first start taking the medication. However, studies into Aindeem’s active ingredient, finasteride 1mg, have shown that between 70 and 80% of men have tended to experience positive results from this form of hair loss treatment.

Research was carried out over a 2 year period whereby  1,553 men with male pattern hair loss were given 1mg finasteride daily for the duration of the study. The findings showed that over 83% of the participants had either maintained or increased their hair count from baseline. Additionally, visual assessments identified an improvement in the hair’s appearance in over 80% of the test subjects.

A further 5-year clinical study into the efficacy of finasteride 1mg was carried out by an independent panel of dermatologists. They reviewed the results of  279 men and assessed their regrowth during the study by using photographic evidence and a hair count. In terms of visible results, the panel concluded that 9 out of 10 subjects achieved this, with 48% experiencing regrowth and 42% halting their hair loss. The hair count test found that almost 70% of men who took finasteride 1mg regrew hair, whilst those who were not taking the medication all lost hair.

Who can take Aindeem?

Aindeem is usually prescribed for men with mild to moderate levels of shedding who want to tackle the signs of pattern hair loss, such as a thinning crown or a receding hairline. Aindeem is not suitable for use by women or men under the age of 18.

It is imperative that any man wishing to use Aindeem first ensure they fit the necessary medical requirements in order for this hair loss treatment to be prescribed. They should consult a hair loss expert or their GP who will be able to assess their suitability before they start any course of treatment. It is also important that, as with any pharmaceutical product or medication, men make themselves fully aware of how the drug should be taken, when it should not be taken, and the potential side effects, beforehand.
