Singer Kian Egan, from boy-band Westlife, hit the headlines in 2008. The reason? Some bad-boy behaviour? Rumours of him going solo? No, the reason being that the then 27 year-old singer was showing signs of hair loss.
While male hair loss is a common condition, affecting more than two-thirds of men, it was perhaps surprising news because of Egan’s reputation as the fresh-faced member of the pop-group. With a bald spot clearly visible on his crown, Egan was showing classic signs of male pattern baldness as he left London’s Dorchester Hotel. Despite the stereotype of the balding middle-aged man, genetic hair loss in men usually starts when a man is in his 20s or 30s. The good news is that, if it is diagnosed early enough, it is possible to treat and see good re-growth.
Egan married his Hollyoaks girlfriend, Jodi Albert, in May this year in a romantic ceremony in Barbados. Photos from the wedding show Egan’s hair looking significantly thicker than it did last year. This growth may be a result of proven hair loss treatments.
Minoxidil and Propecia are the only treatments that have undergone clinical studies and been proven to be effective in stopping hair loss and promoting re-growth. A treatment programme that is tailored to the individual is the quickest way to seeing optimum results. A hair specialist will be able to diagnose the hair loss condition and advise on the best treatment plan.
