In the western world, many women seem to have come to an understanding that balding men are OK. While hair loss is not exactly their preferred look on a man, polls generally show that for most women it’s not a total turn off.
The further east you go, however, the opposite seems to be true. Following recent stories about men obsessing over their image in the UAE (where they say they would swap a year of their lives if it meant they didn’t have to go bald) and in India, where male professionals in Delhi account for more than half of all inquiries to one of the area’s best-known cosmetic clinics, now women in Singapore have put the boot in by saying that balding men are a non-starter.
Singaporean women avoid bald men
The New York Post picked up on a press release by Singapore dating app Paktor which explained how 2,845 users had been polled for a survey about what they looked for in a partner – and what they tended to avoid.
An astonishing two-thirds of the female respondents said that they found bald or balding guys a turn-off.
Singaporean hipsters – just like the ones you’d find in Brooklyn or Shoreditch – are an image-conscious bunch, and the shaven-headed trend that the world briefly enjoyed in the late-90s is not a look that most Singaporean men are embracing today. Especially, by the sounds of it, if they want to get a date.
In fact we reported earlier how one in five Singaporean men had been to see a doctor about hairloss. The news followed a report in which Singaporean men were found to feel more embarrassed about their hair loss than men from anywhere else in the region. Seventy per cent of respondents said that hair loss made them feel less attractive to the opposite sex. This latest poll sadly confirms their instincts.
Help is at hand
Whilst there are clearly many women across the world who find bald men attractive, for those men who want it, hair loss help is also at hand.
Whether it is thinning hair or a receding hairline caused by Male Pattern Baldness, the genetic condition where shedding happens progressively over a number of years, or Alopecia Areata, which is more of a sudden and dramatic condition in which bald patches typically appear almost overnight, modern medications can help.
The best course of action, whether you’re in Sydenham, Singapore or Sydney, is to get a professional diagnosis from an expert so that a bespoke hair loss treatment course can be created. Tailored to the precise pattern and level of shedding of each individual, huge numbers of Belgravia clients have seen impactful regrowth – a few examples of which are documented in our extensive Male Hair Loss Treatment Success Stories gallery.
