Prateek
Question: I am 17 years old boy. I lost hairs in my forehead and in corners now my forehead looks very large. Can my forehead be brought to its normal form? I am very depressed
Answer: Hi, Prateek. This sounds like a receding hairline which is forming a 'V' or 'M' shape, usually referred to as a widow's peak, which is a classic sign of male hair loss.
Male Pattern Baldness tends to be more commonplace in men in their mid-to-late 20s and early 30s onward, but premature hair loss can affect teenagers too. If you are concerned by this and the shedding is making you depressed - something that many men of all ages can experience during hair loss - we recommend you visit a specialist for a professional diagnosis.
Another possibility is that it is simply one of the many changes that take place during puberty; a maturing hairline can occur as your face shape changes, which may be more obvious in some than in others.
Whilst a maturing hairline is not a form of hair loss and requires no treatment, there are clinically-proven medications which can be used to treat a receding hairline. Only one of these - topical applications of high strength minoxidil - are suitable of someone your age though. There are a number of hair growth boosters which can be used to compliment this, however, and a hair loss specialist will be able to tailor a personalised treatment plan based around your specific needs and suitability.
In terms of bringing your forehead to 'its normal form', as the hairline recedes, your forehead may well look larger and, although there is an invasive procedure known as flap surgery intended to lower hairlines, this is something you would need to speak to a specialist plastic surgeon about.
There are other cosmetic measures which are far less drastic that can effectively minimise the visual effects of your hair loss. We highly recommend that, in addition to undertaking a hair loss consultation to gather advice about your condition, you speak to your hairdresser and advise them of your concerns. There are a number of cosmetic styling tips which they should be able to run through with you, including getting a flattering hairstyle that helps to cover more of your forehead, that can help, at least in the short term.
