This year's Academy Award nominees for best or supporting actor and actress roles will each be presented with a gift bag worth a staggering $160,000. Packed with a range of high-ticket items, from luxury holidays to LED liposuction vouchers, the gift bags also contain a product claiming to prevent
hair loss.
Oscar-Nominated Actors Benedict Cumberbatch and Rosamund Pike To Receive Hair Loss Treatments in Gift Bags
Serious swag
The swag bags which have doubled in value since last year's event, will be given out on Monday, the day after the prestigious awards ceremony takes place at LA's Dolby Theatre (formerly the Kodak Theatre).
Each gift bag is supplied to the Oscar nominees, such as Benedict Cumberbatch and Rosamund Pike, by marketing company, Distinctive Assets. They will contain vouchers for holidays such as a luxury train ride through Canada's Rocky Mountains, worth $14,584, a VIP 'glamping' camping trip with a private chef on-hand, worth $12,500, and an Italian holiday with stops in Tuscany, Lake Como and Sorrento, worth $11,500.
Other items include a year's worth of Audi car hire, French sea salts worth $1,548, LED light liposuction, and a psychic reading and dream analysis session with lessons in mind control techniques, valued at $20,000.
Hair growth treatment
Knowing how important an actor's hair can be, 'Healing Saint'
hair loss products from Ohio's Wellness360 Centre, worth $1,200, are also included in the stars' goody bags. The Ohio-based company claims that by using 'polypeptide-enriched media and wound healing technology that helps revitalize the scalp' in their formula, the hair follicle stimulant can promote
hair growth. Adding that the topical serum 'helps reduce hair loss by replenishing the hair follicles natural growth factors, cytokines and proteins'.
The topical formula is meant to be applied twice per day, morning and evening, and can be used by both men and women. It lists
minoxidil as one of its ingredients although, as it is the 12th ingredient on the label and ingredients are listed in order, from highest to lowest, it is hard to say what strength this. Minoxidil is the only medically-proven
hair loss treatment for both sexes which is licensed by the
MHRA and FDA-approved for the treatment of
genetic hair loss.
How hair loss can affect actors
Finding you are showing
signs of hair loss can be a worry for both men and women, but can be particularly concerning for those whose looks affect their profession.
Bradley Cooper, nominated for Best Actor in American Sniper, Is Said To Be Taking Finasteride 1mg To Maintain His Hairline and Prevent Hair Loss
Some of this year's nominees for the Best Actor gong, like
Bradley Cooper and
Michael Keaton, have experienced
male pattern hair loss first hand. For actors, how they choose to deal with their hair loss can determine how their career progresses.
Hollywood generally prefers its leading men to have a full head of hair for mainstream movies, whilst those who accept their
thinning hair as it is, such as Woody Harrelson, tend to lean more towards character acting roles. Men who choose to shave their heads may find the world of action movies opens up to them, like
Jason Statham and new Bond villain,
Dave Bautista, after all, the bad guys are often bald!
Whilst hair loss is often thought about in terms of men, it can be equally as big a problem for women. Recently actress
Gabrielle Union revealed how she 'practically went bald' after having her hair bleached for a film role. Many actresses wear wigs or hair pieces during filming to ensure the camera captures them with bouncy, voluminous, healthy-looking hair. However, over-use of these types of weaves and
hair extensions can lead to hair loss from a condition known as
Traction Alopecia.
For anyone wanting to correct their shedding or prevent signs of
hereditary hair loss from occurring before they become noticeable, the best option is to seek help from a
hair specialist. They will be able to diagnose your condition and recommend the most effective solution based on your condition and medical suitability.
