Mad Men’s Vincent Kartheiser Shaves Head For Role

pete campbell mad men vincent kartheiser receding hairline shaved headVincent Kartheiser is best known for playing Mad Men’s Pete Campbell, a cheating husband who works at an advertising agency. However, although his character was fairly young when the show began in 2007, Kartheiser has revealed that the show’s director requested that he shave his head for his return in the fifth series.

That’s not to say the star was given a short back and sides for the show, rather the ad man had his hair shaved to give the impression of a receding hairline in order to age the character with hair loss, a task which also saw him gain 25 pounds in weight to play his morally absent character.

Shaving Towards Ageing

The 33 year old actor was papped at the Screen Actors Guild awards this week with his new fiancée Alexis Biedel, and had the beginnings of hairline regrowth post shaving. Luckily, though, the actor is managing to not be too vain about his hair, and joked that: “Especially that last episode, they were really prominently displaying my bald spot.”

Vincent went on to describe how his friends had tried to stop him shaving his hair, saying: “Most of my friends were like, dude, don’t do that, it might never come back in! But luckily I have a good head of hair.”

Kartheiser should count himself lucky that he has to shave a receding hairline into his hairstyle, as many men his age and younger are experiencing the onset of male pattern hair loss. This genetic condition occurs when testosterone combines with the enzyme 5-alpha reductase within hair follicles atop the scalp to produce the androgen DHT. When this happens, DHT inhibits the growth of  new hair cells as it causes miniaturisation of the follicles and subsequent hair loss.

When A Receding Hairline Begins

The best way to prevent baldness for men who are noticing the beginning of a receding hairline is by using a combined hair loss treatment approach. The first key medication, Propecia, works by blocking DHT, enabling hair follicles to recover and to hopefully begin growing healthy hair once again.

However, receding hairlines have responded exceedingly well to Propecia combined with our unique minoxidil formulations. We offer a wider range of minoxidil strengths, and our extra strength minoxidil cream has regrown many stubborn receding hairlines.

Of course, Kartheiser has nothing to worry about for the foreseeable future, but should his hair begin to thin the above medications combined with hair growth boosters such as the FDA cleared LaserComb would combine to create a truly comprehensive service. As well as our home use treatments, our patients receive the best possible care and our hair loss specialists are available seven days a week to answer questions and assist clients.
