Star of The Social Network, Jesse Eisenberg, known for his full head of thick, curly hair, has debuted a striking new look in preparation for his role in upcoming film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Bald supervillain Lex Luthor
Eisenberg will be playing the supervillain Lex Luthor, who has famously been bald both in comic book format and in other interpretations of the role. Kevin Spacey, who played Luthor in Superman Returns, also shaved his head for the role.
Director Zack Snyder revealed that Eisenberg’s interpretation of the part will be different to previous Luthors, but with one main consistency – baldness: “He’s not any of the Lexes that you’ve seen, that’s for sure, other than him being a captain of industry and one person to the world and another person to himself. And bald, of course.”
Always a bald villain
Although Lex Luthor is a famous DC comic creation, it’s not just comic books that feature bald bad guys. The new Bond film, Spectre, also features a balding baddie (Mr Hinx, played by Dave Bautista) and, although Bond villains aren’t always bald, a high proportion have a noticeable lack of hair.
Many other films – from Austin Powers to Harry Potter – have also followed the trend of portraying bad guys as hairless. But despite the prevalence of bald baddies, it seems like in Lex Luthor’s case his hair loss may have been a mistake. In fact, it is rumoured that the reason Lex Luthor is bald is because many years ago an artist forgot to illustrate Luthor’s hair.
No need to go bald
Although many actors shave their heads voluntarily for the movie screen, in real life, many are actively trying to avoid a balding look. If you are experiencing hair fall and would prefer to try to regrow your hair, there are two non-invasive male hair loss treatment options that can help keep your hair on your head.
For anyone experiencing Male Pattern Baldness, two medications – finasteride 1mg, a once-a-day tablet, and minoxidil, a topical preparation that is applied directly to the scalp – have been medically-proven to help reverse hair loss. When used as part of a personalised hair loss treatment plan, they can help to promote regrowth and prevent further hair fall. If you are worried about losing your hair, get in touch with a specialist as soon as you start to see the first signs of premature balding.
