Tanesha
Question: Is it safe to perm hair after 2 weeks of having a baby?
Answer: Hi, Tanesha. Congratulations on the new arrival!
It is usually safe to perm your hair a couple of weeks after giving birth, however we would strongly recommend you check with your hairdresser or read the label of the product first. If you cannot find this information easily on home-use perming kits, contact the supplier or manufacturer to ask them directly; there will usually be a helpline phone number on the box.
If you are breastfeeding, it is important you make sure the product being used to perm your hair is suitable for breastfeeding women. Usually this is not a problem but it is critical that you find out this information before going ahead.
If you are concerned about hair loss from the harsh chemicals involved in the perming process - especially when your hair may already be thinning due to post-partum alopecia - make sure your hair is otherwise healthy and in good condition beforehand. Then either have the perm done professionally or be careful to follow the instructions on any home-use kits exactly as directed in order to minimise the chance of damage or breakage.
