Answer: Hi, James. It sounds like you have a classic case of
male pattern baldness which can start any time after puberty in men who have the relevant genetic predisposition for this hereditary hair loss condition. It can cause general thinning anywhere along the top of the scalp, from the crown, to - as seems to be the case in your situation - a
receding hairline.
We are unfamiliar with the hair loss products you mention as we understand they are not widely available in the UK. If you would like further information on these you should speak further with the doctor who recommended them to you.
There are only two clinically-proven medications - neither of which are shampoos or conditioners - that are recognised to treat male pattern hair loss and these are not mentioned in your list.
The UK and USA's medical regulatory bodies, the
MHRA and FDA have licensed and approved, respectively, one topical and one oral medication for this purpose.
If you are experiencing
thinning hair - which we believe you may be from your statement about having less density - then the approach to dealing with this, as well as
treating a receding hairline can include either or both of these hair loss treatments.
The best thing to do if you are unhappy with the recommendations your doctor has made, is to have a consultation with a dedicated hair loss specialists who can examine your scalp and provide you with a diagnosis and appropriate treatment recommendations based on their findings and your medical profile.
