He shocked the world over the weekend by announcing via a newspaper that he would be divorcing Nigella Lawson, and the strain is certainly showing in Charles Saatchi. The art collector argued that himself and his wife had become “estranged” over the past year, the final blow coming when she failed to publicly defend him after he was pictured apparently assaulting her during a meal at a London restaurant a month ago.
Saatchi, 70, seems to be doing reasonably well in terms of his hair, seeing as 65% of men will have noticeable hair loss by age 60. However, pictured leaving his house on Sunday after his divorce announcement, Saatchi appeared to display thinning hair atop his scalp.
Hiding Hair Loss?
So, what could be going on with Saatchi’s hair? Any hair loss from the stress of the last month would not be showing yet (this sort of loss, known as telogen effluvium, usually takes around three months to occur) so it’s more likely that Saatchi is experiencing the genetic condition male pattern hair loss.
If this is the case, Saatchi would need to act now to prevent the hair loss from worsening. It’s possible that he already takes one of the two proven for hair loss medications, called Propecia, which is an oral tablet that inhibits DHT, the androgen hormone that causes hair loss atop the head.
Propecia is a great long term hair loss product, though by itself it is not the most effective way of preventing balding. This is where the only other medication licensed by the MHRA and approved by the FDA, the UK and US medical regulatory bodies, may come in handy.
Collecting a Comprehensive Plan
Minoxidil is a topical treatment that allows for targeted use. Belgravia offers a number of high strength minoxidil preparations which have been seen to produce particularly effective regrowth results for stubborn thinning.
Because Propecia and minoxidil work in different ways, they are highly complementary when used together. Along with treatment boosters such as the FDA cleared LaserComb, they form a comprehensive hair loss treatment plan that ensures all bases are covered when it comes to preventing baldness.
Whilst it’s true that a Belgravia Centre treatment plan can both slow and potentially halt the rate of a man’s hair loss, and also regrow thinning hair, it is important to be realistic in your expectations. If areas of the scalp are completely shiny and bald, hair cannot be regrown, and a hair transplant might be your only option. However, if there is some degree of hair remaining, there’s every chance that hair can be regrown medically.
