Frank Unwin
Question: Can I use regain foam…. I’m 60 this August. thank you
Answer: Hi, Frank. There are two ways in which to answer your question so I shall run you through both, assuming that you are wishing to deal with male pattern hair loss.
The first is to tell you that according to the manufacturer, Regaine Foam is not suitable for men over age 49. Its website states: 'REGAINE® Foam is licensed for hereditary hair loss in Men aged 18 to 49. The cut off age of 49 is based on the upper age limit in the trials submitted for license.'
Based on this, the answer to your query would be 'no'. A more realistic answer, however, would look at the whole picture so that you can decide for yourself if hair loss treatment is something you may like to pursue.
The active ingredient in Regaine is minoxidil and Belgravia offers a number of other minoxidil products which do not have this age restriction. However, whether they will be beneficial or not mostly depends on how long you have been losing your hair and the current extent of you hair loss.
Whilst those with a genetic predisposition can be affected any time from their late teens, some men may not start to experience thinning hair or the beginnings of a receding hairline until much later in life. So if your hair loss is still relatively new and the follicles are still active - you can tell this by hair being present in the thinning areas, even it if it is thin or 'fluffy' - there is a chance that a treatment course could at least help to at least stabilise your shedding.
One concern with men in their fifties and sixties is whether they will be medically suitable for treatment as heart problems and blood pressure issues may render some candidates ineligible. This is why visiting a hair loss specialist nurse who can properly assess you is advisable. That way they can provide you with informed advice and recommendations as to what is suitable for both your hair, health and lifestyle needs.
If you would like to see one of our nurses in person, please contact the centre to book a trichocheck appointment at one of our Central London hair loss clinics. Alternatively, if you are based too far away, you can complete our Online Consultation instead and one of our specialists will be in touch. Wishing you all the best for your 60th birthday!
