How do Minoxidil and Finasteride 1mg Treat Hair Loss?

How Male Pattern Hair Loss Treatments WorkThere are many different hair loss treatments on the market, and new ones are released every month. However while some of these work, at least to some extent, many fail to live up to the promises they make. The vast majority are scientifically unproven and lack factual evidence to back up their hair re-growth claims.

Minoxidil and finasteride 1mg, however, two of the main hair loss treatments utilised by The Belgravia Centre, are different. They have both been scientifically proven to work in the treatment of genetic hair loss, and have also produced substantial positive results in the treatment of a range of other hair loss conditions. They are most effective when used as part of a bespoke, holistic hair loss treatment programme, supervised by a hair loss expert.

Depending on the type and the severity of an individual’s hair loss, different strengths or combinations may be required. The duration of the treatment programme may also vary between individuals.

The reason Propecia and Minoxidil are different from the many other hair loss treatments on the market is that they are the only pharmaceutical products which have been tested and licensed  for the treatment of genetic hair loss by official regulatory bodies on both sides of the Atlantic. In the UK, Minoxidil and Propecia are licensed by the Medicine and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). In the US meanwhile, both hair loss products have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which is responsible for verifying the safety and scientific effectiveness of all pharmaceutical products.

Minoxidil Hair Loss Treatment for Men and WomenMinoxidil

Minoxidil was originally used in oral form to treat patients with high blood pressure. However, as with many medications, it was discovered to fulfil another purpose. A common side effect of the drug was that it caused hair to thicken and become darker. This finding led to it being developed as a topical solution which could be applied to the scalp for the treatment of hair loss. The treatment has been marketed under a number of brand names and has been used successfully by thousands suffering from hair loss around the world.

The exact scientific reason why Minoxidil prevents hair loss and promotes re-growth is not fully understood, but many experts have suggested that it may be due to the drug dilating the blood vessels around hair follicles, and thus increasing the flow of blood and nutrients to the treated area. It has also been suggested that Minoxidil opens up potassium channels in the scalp to encourage hair growth.

The Belgravia Centre offers a range of minoxidil formulations; to find out more about these high strength minoxidil products , please contact the clinic.

Propecia / Finasteride 1mg

Treatments for Male Pattern Hair LossThe active ingredient in Propecia, finasteride 1mg, was also originally used for another purpose – to treat enlargement of the prostate gland. But it was found that the drug was effective in lowering levels of the hormone known to be a primary cause of both prostate cancer and male pattern baldness – Dihydrotestosterone (DHT).

Subsequent research led to the development of a lower dosage form of the drug which was suitable for the treatment of genetic hair loss. A five year study of the drug by Merck pharmaceuticals found that 70 per cent of men taking Propecia on a daily basis experienced hair re-growth, while many more had stopped losing their hair.

Propecia can only be used for the treatment of hair loss in men, while Minoxidil is used in the treatment of both male hair loss and female hair loss. A combination approach to hair loss

Hair Growth Boosters for WomenWhile one treatment may be successful to some extent in stabilising hair loss and promoting regrowth, Belgravia’s specialists have found it to be far more effective to use a combination of hair growth products and methods. That’s why at The Belgravia Centre we do not rely on any one hair loss product to treat our clients. Our team of trained hair loss specialists work with each individual to determine the best course of action based on their own unique condition, level and pattern of shedding.

We also recognise the importance of dealing with the underlying cause for the hair loss, rather than simply treating the symptoms. The Belgravia Centre’s approach has successfully treated a range of hair loss conditions in both men and women, ranging from Genetic Hair Loss to Alopecia Areata and Telogen Effluvium.

In addition to Minoxidil and finasteride 1mg, we have a range of tools for hair regrowth at our disposal. These include laser combs, clinical treatments and Hair Vitalics, an herbal supplement designed to boost the overall health of hair.
