Question: Back in July i was about 86 kilos and them i started going to the gym and by the end of august i weighted 79kg.On 23 of september I weighted 78.4 and on 31 of october i weighted 72.1kg.My hair falls. What things should I eat or do in order to prevent it?
Answer: Hi, Bella. Following a healthy, varied diet full of the nutrients needed for strong hair is advisable, however this will only help with the condition of your hair - it will not prevent hair loss unless your shedding is due to a nutritional deficiency.
Losing around two stone in weight in three months is a fantastic achievement. However, as the majority of your weight loss occurred between July and August, and then between September and October, rather than steadily over the three month period, this could be the reason you are experiencing hair fall.
If you are exercising excessively sometimes, particularly if this is a relatively new routine, this can cause a shock to the system which triggers Alopecia Areata. This autoimmune condition displays as patchy hair loss and causes the hair to fall out in clumps; usually this first becomes noticeable around three months after the initial shock sets in. In many cases the hair will re-grow naturally although the new hairs may come back white or colourless at first due to a pigmentation malfunction. Alopecia Areata treatment involving topical applications of minoxidil directly to the bald patches where hairloss has occurred has been seen to produce promising regrowth in Belgravia clients with this issue.
Rapid weight loss - or, in fact any significant weight loss - can also lead to thinning hair due to the strain it can place on the body. It is known to cause the hair loss condition Telogen Effluvium (or its more advanced form, Chronic Telogen Effluvium) which leads to diffuse shedding from all over the head and makes the hair appear noticeably more sparse. This is a temporary condition and once you address the underlying cause, such as nutritional issues - crash diets can often play a part, the hair should regrow on its own in up to 12 months. Treatment for Telogen Effluvium incorporating hair growth boosters such as Hair Vitalics dietary supplements, can also help to speed hair growth along and improve the hair's condition.
We would recommend you speak to a hair loss specialist in order to get a professional diagnosis of your condition, as well as bespoke recommendations for effective ways to regrow your hair.
