We are always told to watch our diets and keep our health in good check, but how often does someone say, ‘check your hair’? An average person will lose 100 hairs a day, this is completely normal and no cause for concern. However there are ways to spot hair loss.
Hair Loss in Men
For 8 out of 10 men with hair loss, the cause will be genetic. There is a mistaken assumption that it is a condition that affects only middle-aged men; male pattern baldness will often start when a man is in his 20s or 30s. The first sign is usually the gradual receding hairline as seen in stage 2 of the Norwood scale. If the pattern of hair loss progresses to stage 3, it is nearly always an indicator that baldness will progress in the pattern shown, spreading from the front and back of the crown leaving hair at the sides and back.
The earlier a man spots the signs of hair loss, the better the results will be if he chooses to treat it. There are only two proven hair loss treatments that have successfully undergone clinical trials. Minoxidil and Propecia have been licensed by the MHRA and ‘FDA-approved’ for the treatment of male hair loss in the UK and USA respectively. Minoxidil is available in different strengths; a hair specialist will be able to advise on which is the best to use as it will depend on the individual’s medical history and his stage of hair loss.
There are also a range of hair growth boosters that can supplement proven treatments and have shown to encourage faster hair re-growth. The HairMax LaserComb is FDA-cleared which means it has undergone clinical studies to prove it promotes hair growth.
