He used to be one half of TV’s golden couple alongside Anthea Turner, however following an affair with a blonde socialite, Grant Bovey has been kicked out of his marital home. The ex-Blue Peter presenter allegedly discovered that Bovey was having an affair with the same woman with whom he has been photographed holidaying with in the South of France.
Based on the fact that his new partner is under half his age, Bovey, 53, will be keen to keep himself looking as young as possible. However, when comparing recent pictures of the failed property tycoon with ones from just a few years ago, a receding hairline is clearly visible.
New Start, New Hair
The likely explanation for Bovey’s hair loss is male pattern hair loss, which affects 95% of men with noticeable shedding. This genetic condition has to be treated to prevent further hair loss, and hair can potentially be regrown, too. There are many hair loss products available on the market, but not all do what they appear to claim to.
In fact, there are only two proven medications that Bovey could use to treat his hair loss, which have been licensed by the MHRA and approved by the FDA, the UK and US medical regulatory bodies respectively: crucial benchmarks that ensure the medications have been diligently tested for effectiveness.
The first of these, Propecia, is a daily oral tablet, which works by blocking DHT. This powerful androgen attacks hair follicles atop the scalp in those with a genetic predisposition to DHT sensitivity, and causes follicular miniaturisation, which results in thinner, weaker hairs being produced in place of the usual healthy strands. Blocking DHT has no negative impact on the male body after puberty, but blocking it can be a long term solution to hair loss prevention.
A Specialist Approach
The second proven medication, minoxidil, works by stimulating new growth (even in damaged areas providing that hair has not ceased to grow completely). Minoxidil is dose dependent, and as such a hair loss specialist is required to establish an ideal daily dose for each individual case, ranging up to a high strength minoxidil cream for stubborn hair loss. Belgravia also combine a number of added ingredients to their minoxidil, such as azelaic acid, which appear to block DHT when applied locally.
So, should Bovey wish to prevent further thinning and combat his receding hairline, a hair loss treatment plan that contains Propecia and minoxidil would be the best way forward. There are also several hair growth boosters that could improve the overall condition of hair, from the vitamin supplement Hair Vitalics that has been specially tailored to boost hair health, to the FDA cleared LaserComb that can potentially speed up regrowth.
