‘Do Minoxidil and Finpecia Work for Frontal Hair Loss and Thinning?’

Name: Sammy

Question: Does Minoxidil works in frontal hair & does Finpecia too ? M 21 I started thinning hair !!

Answer: Hi, Sammy. If you are having trouble with a receding hairline and thinning hair, this is almost certainly Male Pattern Baldness.

This hereditary condition is common in men in their twenties and can even start in your late teens, so experiencing hair loss at your age is not something to worry about. Given you are 21 years of age, there are two clinically-proven treatment options open to you once you have been deemed medically suitable.

The first is minoxidil which is applied topically, directly to the scalp in the areas that are thinning. In answer to your query, high strength minoxidil can actually be particularly effective on hair loss located in the stubborn frontal area, around the hairline and temples. You can see the types of results it has helped many Belgravia clients to achieve in our Receding Hairline Treatment Success Stories.

The second option is finasteride 1mg which is a tablet taken orally once a day. Whilst minoxidil helps to accelerate regrowth and promote blood flow to specific problem areas on the scalp, finasteride is designed to inhibit the formation of the substance (DHT) which attacks the hair follicles in those affected by genetic hair loss.  Whilst each of these components can be used separately to treat thinning hair, we find they generally perform better when used together as part of a well-rounded approach to treating male hair loss.

With regard to finpecia, this product is banned in the UK as a hair loss treatment and should not be used for this purpose as it contains 5mg finasteride which is five times the licensed dose. There are many dangers connected with using medications that come from unauthorised sources and where your treatment is not subject to proper monitoring.

When deciding how best to treat your hair loss always seek professional advice and assistance both to establish your diagnosis, level and pattern of shedding and so that you can receive a personalised list of treatment recommendations tailored to your specific hair and health needs. A hair loss specialist nurse will be happy to help you with this both at the outset of your treatment and, through carrying out regular check-ups to monitor your progress, they will also be able to make any necessary tweaks to your course to ensure you are always on the optimal regime at every stage.
