He’s been wowing the world with his mind-boggling stunts for years, and now Derren Brown is back with a new show named Infamous, which sees the illusionist embark on his most challenging display of his skills yet. The stunts apparently range from dramatic theatrical pieces to the realms of logic and mathematics.
However, Brown is keen to rebut the idea that he has psychic abilities, and instead relies entirely on the powers of perception. Whilst we have no idea how he manages to pull of his death defying tricks, it is apparent that Brown is struggling with hair loss, as his latest publicity shots indicate.
The Hair Trick
With his hair cropped very short, a good deal of Brown’s scalp is visible in the pictures, and it would appear that he has experienced both a thinning of hair atop the scalp and a receding hairline. It’s likely that this loss is occurring due to male pattern balding.
This genetic condition is one thing that Brown cannot magic away, although a hair loss treatment plan that contains clinically proven medication licensed by the MHRA and approved by the FDA (the UK and US medical regulatory bodies) can both halt hair loss and regrow hair, no illusions (or hairpieces) necessary.
Treatment: Not An Illusion
The first of these two medications, Propecia, is a daily oral tablet that works by blocking the androgen hormone that causes pattern hair loss, DHT. Hair loss occurs when DHT causes follicular miniaturisation atop the scalp, which in turn leads to thin, weak, ‘baby’ hairs being produced. Blocking DHT gives follicles the chance to recover providing that they haven’t ceased to produce hair completely.
Minoxidil, the second proven medication, helps to stimulate new hair growth, even in damaged follicles. Applied directly to the scalp in the form of a liquid or extra-strength minoxidil cream, Belgravia produces minoxidil formulations that contain added ingredients that also appear to block DHT when applied locally, offering a dual-pronged approach to preventing baldness.
So, should Brown wish to halt his hair loss before more scalp begins to show through, a combined treatment plan that includes hair growth boosters such as the FDA cleared LaserComb, as well as the above medications, would offer him the best chance. To avoid the need to create the illusion of hair, Brown should act soon to treat his hair loss whilst he still can.
