The new iGrow Hair Growth System has been released to consumers, promising hair regrowth in just nine months. The system, which looks a little like a protective helmet with attached head phones, uses low-level laser therapy (LLLT) to stimulate the scalp and hair follicles.
According to the iGrow’s manufacturers, the device should help “re-energise’ and strengthen cells in the hair follicles”, delivering significant regrowth for men and women experiencing pattern balding. Improvements in hair line should be visible in six to eight weeks, with the full effects being recognised in nine months.
How does the iGrow work?
The inside of the iGrow is lined with 51 low level red lasers and LED lights. When switched on, these lights beam low energy laser light into the soft tissues of the scalp to increase the action of Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP). This molecule is believed to play an important part in cell growth, including hair.
Is the iGrow one-of-a-kind?
With its futuristic styling, bold regrowth claims, MP3 input and £665 price tag, the iGrow may sound as though it a brand new invention, but the concept of treating hair loss with lasers has actually existed for a long time.
The HairMax LaserComb is an FDA-cleared product that we have been using for many years at The Belgravia Centre, usually in the context of supporting a medication-focused treatment plan. The LaserComb works on exactly the same LLLT principles as the iGrow, but is much smaller, having been designed as a portable device. In this way, the thrice-weekly 10 minute treatment sessions can be undertaken whenever and wherever convenient for the client.
Can laser therapy restore a receding hairline?
Although LLLT has been shown to reduce hair loss by stimulating healthy chemical activity in the scalp, the use of a laser device alone is unlikely to be enough to actively regrow lost hair. It is for this reason that The Belgravia Centre’s hair loss experts advise a complete hair regrowth regime that incorporates use of a LaserComb to complement other, proven hair loss treatments such as Minoxidil and Propecia.
The HairMax LaserComb is included free with most treatment plans we design for our clients at The Belgravia Centre.
