Question: Hi can i style my hair with styling product after applying minoxidil, and how easy is it to do this!? Is it oily? Would it be possible to mix the minoxidil dosage into a salt spray i use to style my hair and spray in the solution in my hair and then blow dry it? Or would this be least effective? Or would it work but just take longer for the hair to regrow?

Answer: Hi, Ryan. No, you should not mix your minoxidil with any styling product - it should be applied separately in order for it to be effective.

In order for the medication to treat your hair loss properly it needs to be applied directly to the scalp so that it can be thoroughly absorbed into the hair follicles where it gets to work.

By mixing it with your salt spray you would render the treatment ineffective, firstly by diluting it and secondly by spraying it which makes the application less precise. As the styling product should be applied to your hair in order to add grit and texture to the hair, but the minoxidil should be applied to your scalp, combining the two means that one product will not be delivered to the right place. As such it is highly likely the majority of your already weakened treatment will end up caught in your hair rather than being absorbed where it is needed.
