Asif
Question: Sir i am 21 years boy. I lost my 50% hairs in fire accident. Doctor advised me that you will be able to get your hair back because my hair plates are burned completely. What should I do?
Answer: Hi, Asif. Unfortunately this kind of hair loss - when it is caused due to scarring following burns - is generally permanent. It is known as cicatricial alopecia or 'scarring alopecia'.
Once the hair follicles have been destroyed - in this case by fire - the scalp scars over. It takes on a shiny appearance and the skin is smooth. When there are no hair follicles present hair loss treatment is unable to promote regrowth as there are no follicles left to work with.
Depending on how extensive the burns to your head are, and if you have a decent area of donor hair available, a hair transplant may be possible. We recommend you contact local surgeons who specialise in hair restoration surgery and get their advice. Best of luck.
