ME
Question: does execess of minoxidil could cause damage of my scalp and hair loss?
Answer: Hi, ME. It is important to state that you should only ever use the specified dose of any medication - including hair loss treatment.
Using more minoxidil than prescribed is unnecessary and will not produce better regrowth results so there is no reason to do so. We always advise Belgravia clients of the precise doses they should be using and the importance of sticking to these instructions.
If, when you are applying minoxidil to your scalp, some drips onto your forehead or neck, or if you get any on your fingers, simply wipe this from your skin quickly and wash your hands afterwards. This type of 'excess' should have no effects.
Problems may arise if you over-use on your minoxidil, particularly if you do not wash your hair very often. This can cause a build-up of residue on the scalp which may lead to irritation and dryness. This can also prevent further minoxidil applications from being absorbed properly so may make your treatment less effective which, technically, could lead to increased shedding.
Always follow the directions and wash your hair regularly - ideally every other day - to prevent this from happening. If you notice any signs of irritation or experience any discomfort, alert your treatment advisor as soon as possible.
To ensure you are using all your male hair loss treatment course components as effectively as possible in order to get the most out of your regrowth plan, always follow the instructions given to you by your hair loss specialist. If you are unsure or need a reminder as to the doses you should be using or how to apply minoxidil, simply ask for a refresher and they will be happy to go through this with you.
As we understand you are not a Belgravia client this is just general advice and we recommend you speak to your minoxidil provider for personalised information.
