Hemp Oil Shampoo for Hair LossName: Oscar

Question: So nice to see an active forum on this issue of weed and hair loss. There is a definite link between smoking and hair loss, for SOME people anyway.

I started smoking regularly the start of 2015, and around August of the same year, I started noticing rapid thinning of my hair and hair loss. I thought weed was the greatest thing ever and I constantly convinced myself it had cured my depression and social anxiety and everything else, so it took me all of 6 months to slow down and eventually quit it.

After this, I noticed my hair loss slowing down, and also the depression starting to creep back in. Regarding my hair, 5 months later, my hair and skin feel A WHOLE LOT better, but I haven’t noticed any hair regrowth yet?

Regarding the depression, there was no way I was going back to weed so I remembered this one quote Bob Marley made: “Weed let ya mind meditate”. So what the heck I turned to meditation. This opened up a WHOLE new world for me, I had no idea meditation could have this effect on a persons life. After 6 months of meditating 20 minutes a day, I am free of ALL anxiety and depression. Even my hair loss and bald patches are not a big life crisis any more like I used to think when it was falling out, hair regrowth would be nice, but if not that’s ok too.

Also, after a lot of research, I found something called Hemp Oil Shampoo, which has the active ingredient CDB in it derived from the cannabis plant. Apparently this could have benefits in working as an antagonist against the THC, the thing in weed that actually causes the hair loss.

Answer: Hi, Oscar. Thanks for adding your thoughts and story to this discussion on our blog. In terms of hemp oil shampoo benefiting hair loss from smoking weed, this is highly unlikely.

Hair Vitalics for men hair growth supplement from The Belgravia Centre LondonThere are a few studies into cannabis use and hair loss, although they are not particularly conclusive, claiming that THC (Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannabinol), the active substance in marijuana, can be found in the hair shafts of those who consume cannabis, and that this may inhibit the elongation of the hair shaft. This means that it can make the hair shaft grow less hair strands, a sign typical in cases of diffuse hair loss, also known as chronic telogen effluvium, which causes all-over hair thinning.

Consuming marijuana causes stress to the body; as such it may trigger anxiety, insomnia, withdrawal symptoms, etc . These symptoms are enough to trigger hair loss, again, usually in the form of diffuse hair loss which can start to present around three months after the initial problem occurred. Although this condition tends to be temporary, lasting a minimum of six months, it can also spark or exacerbate genetic hair loss – including Male Pattern Baldness – in those with an existing predisposition to this hereditary condition.

Regarding hemp seed oil, there is no THC within the hempseeds but small traces of THC may be found in the oil due to the manufacturing process.  The oil itself contains many essential fatty acids and is a good moisturiser with anti-inflammatory properties; it can also relieve mild irritations and itchiness. It is unlikely that hemp seed oil shampoo is sufficiently potent to be used to counteract any form of hair loss – giving up using cannabis is likely to have the biggest impact on your hair’s health.

In order for the hair to recover properly from any hair loss caused by smoking weed, the underlying issue needs to be addressed – in this case stopping smoking. Within a few months the hair should start to return to its usual condition, and specially targeted botanical hair health food supplements, such as Hair Vitalics, can be taken daily to encourage normal healthy hair growth to boost its strength and vitality, naturally.

However, if – as in your case – you are still experiencing thinning five months after giving up, it is likely to be down to male pattern hair loss. This cannot be treated with any kind of shampoo, but there are clinically-proven hair loss treatments which can produce significant results by helping to halt further shedding and promote regrowth. A specialist will be able to diagnose your specific condition – or conditions as it is possible to have diffuse hair loss alongside male pattern baldness which would intensify the thinning – and provide you with a plan of action including personalised treatment recommendations.

Belgravia Centre hair supplement Hair Vitalics for Men food supplement nutrition vitamin tabletName: Jamal

Question: What are the side effects of Hair Vitalics?

Answer: Hi, Jamal. Belgravia’s Hair Vitalics food supplements don’t have any side effects but there are a few precautions that should be observed when taking them.

– We always advise that one tablet is taken per day with a glass of water and your main meal; do not exceed the recommended dose

– Long term intakes of this amount of Vitamin B6 may lead to mild tingling and numbness

– Iron may cause mild stomach upset in sensitive individuals. So, for people who already take high doses of iron (prescription iron), we advise them not to take Hair Vitalics and iron at the same time.

There have been cases where people have mentioned having a bloated stomach after taking these supplements, however, this is not a common complaint and is most likely linked to the points outlined above.

It is important to be aware that taking Hair Vitalics is not a substitute for following a balanced diet but should be used as a targeted nutritional support.

If you are taking any medication or have a medical condition we recommend you consult your healthcare practitioner before taking any food supplements. You can also discuss this with your specialist if you are planning to take hair growth supplements as an add-on to a course of hair loss treatment.

Can I Perm My Hair After Giving Birth?Name: Tanesha

Question: Is it safe to perm hair after 2 weeks of having a baby?

Answer: Hi, Tanesha. Congratulations on the new arrival!

It is usually safe to perm your hair a couple of weeks after giving birth, however we would strongly recommend you check with your hairdresser or read the label of the product first. If you cannot find this information easily on home-use perming kits, contact the supplier or manufacturer to ask them directly; there will usually be a helpline phone number on the box.

If you are breastfeeding, it is important you make sure the product being used to perm your hair is suitable for breastfeeding women. Usually this is not a problem but it is critical that you find out this information before going ahead.

If you are concerned about hair loss from the harsh chemicals involved in the perming process – especially when your hair may already be thinning due to post-partum alopecia – make sure your hair is otherwise healthy and in good condition beforehand. Then either have the perm done professionally or be careful to follow the instructions on any home-use kits exactly as directed in order to minimise the chance of damage or breakage.

Name: Ryan

Question: Hi can i style my hair with styling product after applying minoxidil, and how easy is it to do this!? Is it oily? Would it be possible to mix the minoxidil dosage into a salt spray i use to style my hair and spray in the solution in my hair and then blow dry it? Or would this be least effective? Or would it work but just take longer for the hair to regrow?

Minoxidil for Hair LossAnswer: Hi, Ryan. No, you should not mix your minoxidil with any styling product – it should be applied separately in order for it to be effective.

In order for the medication to treat your hair loss properly it needs to be applied directly to the scalp so that it can be thoroughly absorbed into the hair follicles where it gets to work.

By mixing it with your salt spray you would render the treatment ineffective, firstly by diluting it and secondly by spraying it which makes the application less precise. As the styling product should be applied to your hair in order to add grit and texture to the hair, but the minoxidil should be applied to your scalp, combining the two means that one product will not be delivered to the right place. As such it is highly likely the majority of your already weakened treatment will end up caught in your hair rather than being absorbed where it is needed.

We are unsure as to whether you are a Belgravia client or not but in terms of the high strength minoxidil formulations we offer, only one preparation is oily. Anecdotal reports from clients who have used Regaine suggest that this product is greasy.

In order to give your hair loss treatment the best chance of working, we recommend you stick to applying your minoxidil as recommended and simply wait for around 20 minutes for your hair to dry naturally afterwards, you can then style your hair using your salt spray or other styling products, as normal.

Name: Olly

Question: I have a tingling scalp which I looked up on the internet and believe is called Burning Scalp Syndrome. I read that it can make my hair may fall out – is that true and is it permanent? How do I stop it?

Will Burning Scalp Syndrome Cause Hair Loss?Answer: Hi, Olly. First off, although we all look our symptoms up on the internet, whilst this can be helpful, there is also a lot of incorrect information out there. With this in mind, we would recommend you get a professional diagnosis of your condition before seeking any type of treatment. Depending on how long you have had it, it could also be something as simple as sunburn or a scalp irritation caused by an overly-drying shampoo, or an allergic reaction.

Working on the assumption that you do have Burning Scalp Syndrome, this is often linked, anecdotally, to hair loss but possibly not in the way you think.

The tingling caused by this condition occurs when a high percentage of hair enters the resting phase of the hair growth cycle at once. This is known as the Telogen stage and comes after the active growth stage and before the hair is pushed out to make room for new hair to come through. At any one time up to 10 per cent of the hairs on your head will be in either the telogen or catagen (resting or growth) phase and when the number of dormant hair follicles exceeds this amount, Burning Scalp Syndrome can occur.

As such, yes, you will experience hair loss, and it may seem more than normal but it is nothing to worry about and is not permanent. Once the hair loss stabilises the symptoms tend to dissipate; you can wait for this to happen naturally or can seek treatment such as minoxidil to promote regrowth.

However, this is often reported by men and women in the early to mid-stages of genetic hair loss. So, although Burning Scalp Syndrome itself does not cause shedding – it simply occurs alongside natural hair fall – it does have associations with male and female pattern hair loss which are permanent and progressive conditions.

If you are concerned about losing your hair, we would recommend you speak to a hair loss specialist. They will be able to get to the bottom of any scalp and hair loss condition you may be experiencing and recommend appropriate treatment options.
