Pop sensation, Ariana Grande has posted on social media about her hair loss following negative comments made about her appearance on the internet.
The 21 year old actress and singer, famed for her hit single 'Bang Bang' with Jessie J and Nicki Minaj, is known for her signature 'half up, half down' high pony tail look. This voluminous hairstyle is created using hair extensions to cover what sounds like some serious styling damage.
Grande blames her hair breakage on over-bleaching then repeatedly dyeing her hair for TV roles - a similar situation to that experienced by Lady Gaga who described the damage done to her hair by too much bleach as getting a 'chemical haircut'.
Ariana claims in posts left on her social media channels today, that she wears her hair like this, using extensions for an extra boost, because her own hair is 'so broken that it looks absolutely ratchet and absurd when I let it down'.
This is the post Ariana Grande left on her official Facebook page today regarding her hair loss:
Whilst the Florida-born starlet is clearly unhappy with the state of her natural hair, using hair extensions whilst she grows her own hair through could be doing her more harm than good. Hair extensions are a known cause of the hair loss condition known as 'Ballerina Baldness' or Traction Alopecia.
Traction Alopecia occurs when too-tight hairstyles - including braids, buns, ponytails and hair extensions - apply excessive amounts of tension to the hair follicles. This causes them to stretch leading to damage that may prevent normal hair growth.
From this Instagram picture, right, it appears that Ariana is experiencing thinning hair around her temples and hairline - classic signs of Traction Alopecia.
There are treatments for Traction Alopecia available but it is advisable to take steps to avoid developing the condition in the first place, such as only wearing taut hairstyle occasionally and varying the placement of any tight styles so that your hair gets a rest in between.
The most effective way for Ariana to grow her hair back without risking further damage, is to seek professional hair loss treatment.
Minoxidil could help the singer to regrow her hair whilst using hair growth boosters, such as Hair Vitalics supplements and the HairMax LaserComb can help to improve the condition of the hair and improve the efficacy of the minoxidil, respectively. This may lead to quicker regrowth than letting her hair grow naturally, particularly whilst wearing hair extensions.
