Al Pacino Shows Signs Of Thinning Hair

al pacino hair loss thinning hairHe’s better known as Michael Corleone from the Godfather trilogy, or Tony Montana in Scarface, and the acting legend that is Al Pacino appeared a shadow of his former self as he made an appearance in Beverly Hills this week shopping with his son Anton James. The actor seemed gaunt, and his hair has noticeably thinned.

An Offer You Can’t Refuse

The 73 year old wore his salt and pepper ‘do relatively long, and whilst his hairline seemed to have receded relatively little, Pacino’s overall hair density appeared low, which indicates that he’s experiencing male pattern hair loss. The veteran actor has recently returned from an appearance at the London Palladium where fans attended a Q&A, and he seemed to be dressing more for the British summer than the Californian heat, wearing all black including a tuxedo jacket.

In his seventies, Pacino is doing well in terms of keeping his hair: when a man reaches the age of 80 there is a 70% chance he will have noticeable hair loss, and Pacino doesn’t appear to have any balding patches yet. So, how might he be preventing baldness?

Of course, noticeable thinning hair does not affect every man, and some men will retain good heads of hair into their 80’s naturally. However, this is obviously quite unusual, and it would appear that the majority of men will express their inherited genetic predisposition to baldness.

Pattern balding occurs when hair follicles located along the top of the scalp and hairline that are sensitive to the androgen DHT begin to miniaturise and produce weaker, thinner strands of hair that appear like baby hair. DHT occurs naturally in the body, though it serves no useful purpose after puberty.

A Good Head of Hair

To combat this thinning, DHT blocker Propecia can be taken by men to halt hair loss as part of a bespoke hair loss treatment plan. This oral tablet has successfully treated patients for many years, and there is no maximum amount of time you can take Propecia for, although it’s possible it may become less effective as men age, though this is impossible to predict.

Propecia is one of two hair loss medications that have been licensed by the MHRA and approved by the FDA to treat hair loss. The other medication is minoxidil, which is available in topical formulations and is applied directly to the scalp in the affected areas. Belgravia’s experts find using high strength minoxidil can be particularly effective in treating stubborn areas of hair loss, such as a receding hairline or thinning crown.

These two proven medications must be taken consistently in order to retain the benefits, and can be combined with various treatment boosters such as the FDA cleared LaserComb to ensure that hair is kept in the best condition possible.
