Adrenal Imbalance: Could It Be Causing Your Hair Loss?

tired women adrenal imbalanceWe know that stress can cause hair loss, and also that it is often not easy to simply remove the stress from your life: very few people live with stress out of choice! It is therefore useful to understand a little more about how exactly stress causes hair loss to occur.

A man or woman’s adrenal glands are powerful endocrine glands that help your body react to stress while keeping those reactions in balance. If you experience a short-lived stressful event, your body releases a range of hormones which protect you by releasing energy and sharpening your senses so that you can immediately defend yourself or escape the situation, and afterwards you return to a state of energised calm.

Permanently Stressed?

However, if you are in a constant state of stress, adrenal function can be disrupted, leading to symptoms of adrenal imbalance, of which hair loss is one. It is possible to either be experiencing hyper adrenal dysfunction (too much, which results in difficulty in sleep), or hypo adrenal dysfunction (too little, which results in fatigue) and both can result in hair loss.

In order to resolve what is causing your hair loss, you first need to consider what type it is, for instance if you’re a male experiencing a receding hairline or a thinning atop the head, it is more likely to be male pattern hair loss rather than an adrenal imbalance.

Balancing Trick

However, if your hair loss is sudden and either patchy or all over the scalp, it’s more likely to be due to an imbalance. You should visit your GP in order to determine exactly where the imbalance is: thyroid, iron levels, autoimmune conditions, gut function and oestrogen levels should all be checked for irregularity, as well as adrenal level.

Whilst this is being dealt with, Belgravia can help with the hair loss itself. If stress has resulted in telogen effluvium or perhaps even alopecia areata, we have found that our unique high strength minoxidil cream can be highly effective for both men and women. Men can also combine a second clinically proven for hair loss medication, Propecia, into their hair loss treatment plan.

Both of these medications are licensed by the MHRA and approved by the FDA, important benchmarks in reliability of the medicines’ function. A bespoke hair loss treatment programme would also contain selected treatment boosters, which ensure that hair is kept in its optimum condition as it regrows.
