Recently, word reached The Belgravia Centre of an 80-year old man who confidently proclaimed that his full head of healthy hair was down to an unusual practice involving hot water. Unlike his friends, this particular man had not experienced any significant hair loss, or even a receding hair line.
The man explained that every day he washed his hair with the hottest water he could stand without burning himself. By using extremely hot water, he explained, blood was drawn to his scalp which helped to keep his hair healthy.
Don’t get your hair into (too) hot water
A good flow of blood to the scalp and hair follicles is essential for healthy hair growth as the man believed, but the use of excessively hot water could be very dangerous. Scalding and burns can cause scarring of the scalp which will in turn damage hair follicles and prevent hair regrowth in future.
It is also unlikely that the man’s hair washing regime was solely responsible for his hair retention: more likely is that he was one of the minority of men who do not experience significant hair loss, and he has drawn an incorrect causal link. There are, in any case, far safer treatments to prevent hair loss and promote regrowth which are undoubtedly more comfortable too.
Here at The Belgravia Centre we prescribe clients clinically proven medications to combat hair loss.
