Name:

Rick

Question: I’ve tried the minoxidil 5% and it does not work for me. I’ve been using it for 5 months now and I need help. How do I regrow hair. I am only 19.

Answer: Hi, Rick. We noticed you left your question on a story concerning Alopecia Areata so, for the purposes of this response I am assuming you have this condition rather than male pattern hair loss.

Without being able to see your hair loss and pattern and level of shedding it is hard to say why your 5 per cent minoxidil product has not worked although we suspect this is an over-the-counter product sold for male pattern baldness. There are a number of reasons why this may not have produced any results in five months of usage, one of which is that it may simply not be suited to your specific situation, particularly if you have Alopecia Areata rather than genetic hair loss.

5 per cent minoxidil not working for alopecia areataThe options open to you depend on which type of alopecia you have; unfortunately the more severe conditions Alopecia Totalis and Alopecia Universalis currently have limited options and none of these have significant success rates. Whilst research into potential treatments, particularly in the area of JAK inhibitors, is looking more promising than ever, these are still in the trial stages of development.

Treatment for Alopecia Areata in its mild-to-moderate stages, however, is available now and can be incredibly effective. You can find a number of examples of Belgravia clients who have enjoyed successful regrowth following treatment in our Alopecia Areata Treatment Success Stories gallery.

Belgravia's specialists can discuss potential treatment options and the range of high strength minoxidil products and hair growth boosters we use to treat Alopecia Areata with you and, for more personalised advice you can book a free consultation or complete our Online Consultation if you are unable to visit one of our Central London clinics.

If you are not the experiencing patchy scalp- or all over head or body hair loss associated with autoimmune alopecia, but instead have the thinning hair or a receding hairline which signal hereditary balding, please contact the clinic in the same way as the first step is always to provide a thorough diagnosis of your condition.
