Do we Treat Male Hair Loss and How Successful is Treatment?

Before and During Treatment

Yes. In fact genetic male hair loss is by far the most common condition that Belgravia trichologists deal with. Having treated many thousands of males who suffer with male hair loss, we have proven that most men who use Belgravia ’s prescription courses for male hair loss will experience hair loss stabilisation and varying degrees of hair re-growth in a reasonably short period of time. You can see the success of our treatment courses for male hair loss, and how quickly results can be seen by viewing our 'before and during treatment' photo-scans. We are the only hair specialists in the UK, Europe and possibly the rest of the world able to present this level of success for male hair loss and many other hair loss conditions.

What is Male Hair Loss?

Male hair loss, otherwise known as Androgenic Alopecia or male pattern baldness, is caused by the effect of the male hormones, called androgens, on genetically predisposed hair follicles (passed down the family tree). For those who are prone to hair loss, within these genetically programmed hair follicles the male hormone ‘testosterone’ is converted into the androgen ‘Dihydrotestosterone’, or ‘DHT’, by an enzyme called 5-alpha reductase. It is the effect of this DHT that inhibits the growth of new hair cells, which in turn leads to male hair loss and in many cases, eventual baldness.

How our Treatment for Male Hair Loss Works

Belgravia’s individually prescribed combination treatment courses for male hair loss have three main purposes; a) to block the DHT hormone (the cause of male hair loss) from reaching and destroying vulnerable hair follicles, b) to stimulate and increase the blood circulation that is crucially needed to feed and nurture the existing hair follicles that are prone to be affected by male hair loss. Without a good blood circulation the hair follicles will gradually shrink and die and c) to open up potassium channels in the areas of hair loss.

For a brief explanation of all of the treatments we prescribe for male hair loss as part of our full treatment course programmes, visit the hair loss treatment page. Otherwise, for more detailed information on our male hair loss treatments including Propecia and Minoxidil you can scroll through the menu bar to the right of this page.

Still a Mystery

Male hair loss is confined to the area at the top of the head and that is why men who go bald are often left with hair only at the sides and back of their heads. Why these hair follicles are left completely unaffected by male hair loss and the hairs on the top of the head are sensitive to DHT is one of the mysteries of life not yet solved.

Different Stages of Male Hair Loss

These two diagrams represent the different stages of alternative forms of male hair loss. There are various shapes in which the hair thins in male hair loss, as shown on the diagrams.
