Within every Belgravia male hair loss treatment course there are a number of components that contribute towards the optimum hair loss treatment programme. This page explains each of these components, what they contain and how they work to prevent hair loss and regrow hair.
A Belgravia treatment course deals with as many ways as possible to counteract every element that causes hair loss. When you visit Belgravia or complete our online diagnostic form for our world-wide mail-order hair loss service, your dedicated hair loss specialist will decide on the most suitable and effective treatment course components for your particular condition and stage of hair loss.
Please be aware that the majority of hair loss products advertised have no clinical evidence to support their claims for hair loss prevention. The primary hair loss treatments that form the core of most of Belgravia ’s hair loss treatment programmes are medically proven to prevent hair loss and regrow hair and most men who use our treatment combinations will achieve this goal. You can get an idea of results by viewing our ‘before and during treatment’ photos and hair loss success Stories . You can also find impartial and information-based details of most of the well-known treatments by viewing our hair loss products page.
How We Prevent Hair Loss and Regrow Hair for Most Men…
Firstly, it is important that you know exactly why genetic male pattern hair loss takes place
There are enzymes in men and women who are genetically predisposed to hair loss (called 5-alpha reductase), that turn the hormone ‘testosterone’ into another hormone derivative, ‘dihydrotestosterone’ (DHT). When DHT is formed, it attaches itself to the hair follicles on the top of the head, causing them to continually shrink with every growth cycle. This causes the hair to gradually become thinner until the follicles finally become dysfunctional and the hair no longer grows. These symptoms of hair loss are mostly found in men between the ages of 18 and thirty five, where it is normal to see high levels of testosterone. The hair loss treatments that we offer work in the following way.
The first objective to prevent further hair loss is to block DHT from reaching the hair follicles
Primary medications
Propecia is one of the medically proven FDA approved male hair loss treatments and is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor. This means that it prevents the formation of DHT. DHT has no major uses in the body of a developed man so blocking it causes no harm to the body, but does help to prevent hair loss and re-grow hair.
Medroxyprogesterone (MPG) or Azelaic Acid (AA) can be found in Belgravia ’s main formulations of minoxidil (see next paragraph for information on minoxidil). These are both unproven products but may contribute to the prevention of DHT locally around the hair follicles. Although MPG and AA are not advised as individual hair loss treatments, they are important for men who use Propecia as they could assist in contributing to the complete blockage of DHT.
The second objective is to ensure the hair follicles are receiving as much ‘hair-friendly’ blood as possible
Minoxidil was the first hair loss treatment proven to reverse genetic male (and female) hair loss and to be approved by the FDA . The Belgravia Centre pharmacy produces its own formulations of minoxidil in a 4% or 5% solution with MPG added or in an extra-strength 12.5% cream with azelaic acid added.
Minoxidil increases the blood supply to the areas that it is applied, this increases the nutrients delivered to the hair follicles and prevents shrinkage of the follicles, resulting in prevention of hair loss and re-growth of the hair in many cases. Minoxidil acts by opening up potassium channels, which has been found to prevent male and female hair loss. Belgravia ’s hair specialists have found through experience that Propecia and minoxidil complement each other superbly, and used together are the best known hair loss treatment basis to combat genetic male hair loss.
Hair Growth Boosters
The LaserComb is an FDA cleared low-power hand-held laser device designed especially for the scalp. It should be used three times per week and involves slow combing of the hair for 10-20 minutes, depending on the device you decide to purchase (Compact SE device or Premium Device). The LaserComb helps to promote hair loss stabilisation and regrowth and is particularly beneficial when used as part of a combination treatment course consisting of the primary medications for hair loss. The HairMax LaserComb is usually included free with most of Belgravia ’s treatment courses (conditions apply).
Hair Vitalics is Belgravia ’s recommended daily herbal supplement that contains many important nutrients to keep your hair at its healthiest. One of Hair Vitalics’ ingredients is ‘Saw Palmetto’ which is an herbal product that contributes to hair loss stabilisation and is commonly used as a booster within a full hair loss treatment course.
Clinical treatment therapy can be included in a scalp problem or hair loss treatment course on a fortnightly, monthly or quarterly basis. It involves visiting the centre and takes about 1 hour. Treatment involves steam, scalp treatment, ultra violet and infra red light therapy, laser and massage. The purpose of clinical treatment is to help maintain the condition of the hair and scalp and stimulate activity in order to further encourage hair growth.
Belgravia ’s specially formulated shampoos and conditioners are designed for every hair type. They will not contribute towards hair loss stabilisation or re-growth but will help to maintain ones hair and scalp in a healthy and vibrant state.
Whilst on a Belgravia hair loss treatment course, it is important to keep in contact with the centre so that we can make sure that your hair is being treated as safely and successfully as possible, whether it be by visiting the centre for a check-up or by keeping in contact by telephone or internet.
Check-ups/keeping in contact –
Check-ups are available to hair loss patients at their own convenience. Quarterly check-ups are advised but if a patient has any question or requires a visit they are always welcome. For those who cannot visit the centre, one of our trichologists will be more than happy to discuss any queries over the phone or via the internet.
It is very important when using prescription medications, that hair loss treatment is monitored and that if you have any queries during your treatment period with regard to anything to do with your hair loss condition or the treatment you are using, it should be addressed and answered in as short a time as possible.
