Price and Treatment Comparison Chart

Over the past 2 years a number of independent agents have visited some of the most advertised and well-known London hair centres and reported back to us informing us of the treatments that were offered and the prices that were quoted.  Here we compare costs and treatment combinations for your reference.  The most recent consultation was on 21st May 2008 and the information is shown below.  Each agent was male and experiencing the early stages of male pattern hair loss.

Aside from the costs, you should also take other factors into consideration i.e. the length of treatment course and the treatment recommended.  Remember that treatment for genetic hair loss is on-going, so a six month, 8 month or 12 month course will always have to be continued afterwards in order to maintain results – whatever the consultant may say!

Underneath the table you will find a list of all the treatments mentioned so that you have an idea of the ones that work effectively, the ones that work satisfactorily and the ones that do not work at all.  We have also included some information on the level of service that Belgravia provides so that you realise the low cost offered by the Belgravia Centre is not reflected by the service:

Note:  Some clinics offered more than one treatment course option so we have listed each here.

Information on all of the treatments offered above

FDA Approved Treatments

Propecia:  One of only 2 FDA approved treatments for hair loss.  This treatment is proven to stabilise hair loss and re-grow hair in men with genetic hair loss.  Propecia is not available from most of the hair loss clinics as it requires a prescription and Belgravia is the only clinic with an in-house pharmacy.

Minoxidil:  The other of the two FDA approved treatments.  Proven to stabilise hair loss and re-grow hair in both men and women with genetic hair loss, amongst other conditions.  Belgravia’s Minoxidil 12.5% + Azelaic Acid has been developed by the Belgravia pharmacy and is the strongest form of minoxidil available in the UK.

FDA Cleared Devices

LaserComb:  The LaserComb has been cleared by the FDA.  This means that there is evidence to show that it promotes hair loss stabilisation whilst ensuring safety.  The LaserComb Compact SE is currently available free with most of Belgravia’s treatment courses (more information here) or for £240 if purchased alone. The Premium device is available for £335.  We advise using LaserComb as part of a combination treatment course inclusive of minoxidil + MPG / Azelaic Acid and / or Propecia in order to ensure optimum results.  No other laser device has been cleared by the FDA.

None of the following products are FDA approved – this means they are not medically proven treatments as they have not undergone official clinical trials:

Prescription Treatments:

Azelaic Acid:  A topical natural DHT blocker.  DHT is the hormone that causes genetic hair loss and Azelaic acid helps to prevent it from reaching the hair follicles.  This is used as a booster for minoxidil 12.5%, not as an individual treatment.

Medroxyprogesterone (MPG):  A prescription DHT blocker.  DHT is the hormone that causes genetic hair loss and Azelaic acid helps to prevent it from reaching the hair follicles.  This is used as a booster for minoxidil 5%, not as an individual treatment.

Non-Prescription Treatments:

Hair Vitalics Hair Supplement:  A natural booster supplement produced by the Belgravia Centre that contains saw palmetto and other beneficial nutrients that help with the condition and health of the hair and body.  Like other supplements and natural products, this treatment will not be significantly effective for hair loss stabilisation if used alone.  It is a ‘booster’ to be used alongside proven hair loss treatments.

Saw Palmetto:  A natural plant extract that is thought to help towards blocking DHT which is the hormone that causes genetic hair loss.  This will not individually combat the problem of hair loss, but is effective as a booster to one or more of the FDA approved treatments.

Biostim:  A relatively unknown natural product produced by the Westminster Practice.  No official clinical trials have been carried out for this product and there is no scientific proof that it will stabilise or reverse hair loss.

Triaxon:  A relatively unknown product offered by the London Centre of Trichology.  No official clinical trials have been carried out for this product and there is no scientific proof that it will stabilise or reverse hair loss.

Serona Ripens products: Serona Ripens is Saw Palmetto – see ‘Saw Palmetto’ description above.  The product range consists of a serum, shampoo and capsules.

Infra-Red Treatment:  A therapeutic treatment that promotes tissue healing and blood circulation.  Infra-red does not stabilise hair loss or promote hair growth.

‘Natural DHT Blocker Tablet’:  Supplement containing Saw Palmetto (see description above) and other vitamins and minerals – a booster, similar to Hair Vitalics.

‘Complete’ Supplement:  Supplement containing Saw Palmetto (see description above) and other vitamins and minerals - a booster, similar to Hair Vitalics.

‘Scalp Cleanser’:  This is a product that according to the Maximum Hair consultation “cleanses the scalp”, which is not a process that is beneficial for hair loss stabilisation or hair re-growth.

Level of service

We have covered cost comparisons and product comparisons/efficacy. Level of service is also extremely important. As you can see in the diagram, Belgravia offer the most effective treatments at the cheapest prices, but this does not mean a low standard of service. In fact quite the opposite is true. It is impossible to carry out an accurate description of the level of service of other hair clinics so we will give you some facts about the service offered at The Belgravia Centre.

NOTHING IS MORE IMPORTANT TO US THAN YOUR COMPLETE SATISFACTION AT ALL TIMES

  • The level of service at The Belgravia Trichological Centre is and always has remained as important as the efficacy and value of our treatment courses.

  • High level of personal service throughout the U.K and overseas.
