As England prepare to take on Italy in Brazil for their first match of the World Cup 2014 Tournament, and in light of recent comments from manager Arsene Wenger, who spoke about how many of his Arsenal players are on medication for hair loss, we take a look at the hairlines of some of our country’s most gifted footballers.
Wayne Rooney: Hair Transplants Bring Success
After his much publicised hair transplant in 2011, Rooney needed a second op in 2013 to deal with his receding hairline. The Manchester United forward has been incredibly open about his hair loss treatments, which ran into the tens of thousands of pounds, and has helped remove the stigma previously associated with treating hair loss professionally.
Leighton Baines: Winning Locks
With a hairstyle that wouldn’t look out of place in the 1974 England World Cup team, Leighton’s definitely making the most of his full head of hair with this mod style cut. Let’s hope the full-back’s George Best-inspired look also inspires a World Cup winning performance!
Danny Welbeck: High Top Triumph
The Manchester United forward’s proud High Top should not be mistaken for hair loss. The very short, shaved sides are part of this style of hair cut known as a ‘High Top Fade’. Popular in the 1990’s with stars including Will Smith, Kid’n’Play and Bobby Brown, the look – which is best suited to Afro-Caribbean hair due to the texture and height required to carry it off – is back in fashion with stars like Welbeck leading the way.
Frank Lampard: Following in His Father’s Footsteps
This England stalwart left Premiership club, Chelsea FC, after 13 years at the end of last season. Lampard was the Blues’ top scorer despite being a midfielder, and is rumoured to be off to play in New York. There’s no doubting this England old boy is world class but is his hairline as solid as his performance record? We’ve noticed Frank’s hair appears thinner around the crown and his hairline appears to be receding very slightly, following the same Male Pattern Baldness as his father, West Ham legend, Frank Lampard Snr.
Ashley Cole: Going, Going, Gone
Roy Hodgson may have left Ashley Cole out of the England squad for Brazil 2014 but this is not one of the worst decisions the Chelsea player has been involved in – remember his mohican? and the recent beard experiment..? The out-of-favour defender clearly has thick hair however, now that he’s in his 30’s, his hairline is starting to recede.
Jack Wilshere: Crowning Glory
Arsene Wenger’s comments that a number of his players use hair loss medication has got everyone speculating but Arsenal’s well-groomed, midfield maestro, Jack Wilshere is definitely not showing any signs of hair loss at the moment. Could he be on Propecia?
