A report released in August (and timed to coincide with Hair Loss Awareness Month in the US) highlighted the shocking effect that losing hair can have on a woman’s confidence.
The headline statistics from the report suggest that 96% of women believe that their hair is directly connected to their sense of beauty, whilst 55% of ladies experiencing hair loss feel they are negatively judged as a direct result.
65% of those women questioned admitted that noticeable hair loss prevented them from participating in their usual activities, such as visiting the hairdresser or going swimming, and the survey also showed that hair loss can affect relationships that are even closer to home. Many of the women said that they no longer allowed their partner to touch their hair, and that their condition had led to a decline in intimacy in their relationship.
The link between hair loss and a drop in self confidence has been well documented throughout the years. Although awareness and understanding of hair loss conditions has increased in recent times, it seems that an overwhelming majority of women are still greatly impacted when they begin to lose their hair.
Hair loss worries even for those unaffected
The report also questioned women unaffected by hair loss for their thoughts and feelings on the subject, with somewhat surprising results.
58% of the surveyed women were still extremely worried about thinning hair despite never having shown any signs of hair loss before – showing that the psychological effects of hair loss are evident even when it is only a potential concept.
Increasing hair regrowth and self confidence
Hair loss is relatively common in both women and men, but the emotional effects can still be difficult to cope with. However, help is available – both for the hair loss condition itself, and the psychological symptoms that it can cause.
