Women Now Losing Hair in Their 20s Thanks to Stress

According to a new survey, women are losing their hair earlier now, with many experiencing thinning hair in their 20s – a decade earlier than previous generations.

Hair loss starting earlier in women

The poll carried out by haircare giant, L’Oreal, showed that one third of the women surveyed confirmed they had suffered hair loss.

Of those polled, one sixth said they had shown signs of hair loss before their 30th birthdays, 8% advised they had experienced thinning hair by the time they were 25 and 2.5% had noticed their hair thinning before they turned 20.

Hair loss linked to stress

Stress is thought to be the main factor behind the earlier onset of hair loss conditions in women. Nearly three-quarters of the women surveyed who had suffered from hair loss blamed this on stress – from both life and work.

Those with demanding careers seemed to be among the worst hit. The survey also covered male hair loss and found that hair loss was more prevalent among high-earners of both sexes, with one in five men and women earning salaries of over £75,000 a year blaming work stress for their thinning hair, compared to just one in ten of those earning up to £15,000.

Women more likely to seek treatment

Whilst the survey found men were more likely to ‘suffer in silence’ over male hair loss, almost a sixth of the women asked said they would rather be fat than bald. Here at The Belgravia Centre we have seen an increase in female hair loss clients, with many seeing promising results from their hair loss treatments, as can be seen in our Hair Loss Success Stories.

Luckily there are effective hair loss treatment options available for men and for women who choose to seek help for their thinning. Anyone concerned about hair loss or thinning hair should contact a hair loss specialist for professional guidance and help choosing an effective treatment plan for their condition.
