Sarah Vine, Journalist And Wife Of Politician Michael Gove Talks Hair Loss
Sarah Vine realised that her hair loss had become too advanced to conceal anymore when she saw a photo of herself at a party and, in her words, “just looked like my dad in drag.” She subsequently decided that: “I need to do something about this”.
When Haircuts Stop Helping
Despite being beauty editor of The Times, and therefore having access to “the best hair cutters in the world,” and “a lot of clever cutting and colouring,” Vine still struggled with her hair, using coloured powders to try and conceal her hair loss. The prominent journalist really struggled with her self esteem as a consequence, describing how she saw herself looking “old and bald”.
Speaking on BBC Radio 4′s Woman’s Hour, Vine described her dismay at being pictured next to Samantha Cameron, wife of Prime Minister David, at the state opening of Parliament with noticeably thin hair. Vine was faced once again with how “the whole of the front [of her hair] had gone very thin”. This was the last straw after a stream of photos online where Vine was troubled by her obvious thinning hair.
Do Weaves Do More Harm Than Good?
Vine decided to manage her hair loss with a weave, but at The Belgravia Centre, we see many patients whose weaves have caused them further hair loss due to traction alopecia. If Vine has been experiencing female pattern hair loss, which usually appears as an overall thinning of hair on the top of the scalp, medical treatment can be very effective.
Our unique high strength minoxidl 10% + azelaic acid cream has proven to be extremely effective for women experiencing hair loss, even in areas where hair has become exceptionally thin. The minoxidl is applied twice daily to the scalp, and whilst the exact reason it works is still a subject of scientific debate, it is a clinically proven hair loss treatment, recognised as such by the MHRA, the UK’s medical regulatory body. You can take a look at our female hair growth success stories for an idea of the results you can expect.
