Minoxidil 2% is the licensed strength for women. It does not mean you cannot use anything stronger, it just means that while you can buy minoxidil 2% over the counter, anything stronger requires a prescription. For more information, please read:

I am 24 years old and have suffered from Alopecia since I was 19 years. When it first started the patches were rather big and many in number, I had lost my eyebrows and eyelashes on one eye. However I had lost a lot of weight at the time but slowly my patches became less. It took a long time for my eyelashes to grow back, although they are not as long as they were.

Recently I have had a big patch reappear at the top of my head and am loosing more hair than usual. I fearful that it will get as bad as it was. I have read on your website that one of the treatments used for females is Minoxidil 5%. I just wanted to know if this strengh was safe for females as when I researched some websites stated the higher strenghs were for men only.
