Lead Guitarist in Metallica Uses Minoxidil for Hair Loss
Kirk Hammett, the lead guitarist in rock band Metallica uses Minoxidil to treat his hair loss. He was quoted in the NME as saying, “”I make no bones about it, I’ve had some help. I’m all about Rogaine. Take it from me, it ****ing works.” Rogaine is a brand name for hair loss treatment Minoxidil.
Hammett is no fan of the bald look saying, “If I didn’t do it, I’d look like Michael Stipe (bald lead singer of band REM)”. Sporting classic rock guitarist long locks, it is difficult to picture the 46-year-old Hammett with a bald head. It seems early preventative action has paid off for the musician who has hundreds of thousands of fans worldwide, many of them female.
The most likely cause of Hammett’s hair loss is genetic – as male pattern baldness affects 8 out of every 10 men with hair loss.
Contrary to popular belief, it is not a condition that only affects middle-aged men. Most men will begin to see the early signs of a receding hairline and hair loss from the crown in their 20s or 30s.
