Answer: Hi, Dawn. I believe you are thinking of finasteride 1mg. This is an oral tablet taken daily to inhibit the formation of DHT – the testosterone byproduct which causes genetic hair loss in both men and women. Unfortunately this is only suitable for men and there is no pill for female pattern hair loss yet, which is what it sounds like you may be experiencing.

Female hair loss causes thinning hair all around the top of the head, crown and around the hairline. It is generally particularly noticeable at the parting which tends to look increasingly wider as this progressive condition worsens.

You mention that your hair is ‘snapping’; this indicates it may either be brittle from styling damage or malnourished due to dietary deficiencies. This can lead to hair breakage which is where the hair becomes so weak that it snaps along the shaft, giving an even thinner appearance. It could also indicate another hair loss condition – something called Telogen Effluvium – is present.
