Name: Dawn

Question: I’m 51 years old woman . Top and back of head thinned alott . In general thinning and snapping . I need help . What’s the pill a woman can take and is there any products I can use to stop this hairloss . Thanks

Answer: Hi, Dawn. I believe you are thinking of finasteride 1mg. This is an oral tablet taken daily to inhibit the formation of DHT – the testosterone byproduct which causes genetic hair loss in both men and women. Unfortunately this is only suitable for men and there is no pill for female pattern hair loss yet, which is what it sounds like you may be experiencing.

Female hair loss causes thinning hair all around the top of the head, crown and around the hairline. It is generally particularly noticeable at the parting which tends to look increasingly wider as this progressive condition worsens.

You mention that your hair is ‘snapping’; this indicates it may either be brittle from styling damage or malnourished due to dietary deficiencies. This can lead to hair breakage which is where the hair becomes so weak that it snaps along the shaft, giving an even thinner appearance. It could also indicate another hair loss condition – something called Telogen Effluvium – is present. This temporary shedding can present simultaneously with female pattern hair loss – as per the example Success Story pictured.

Both these conditions can be treated with comprehensive hair loss treatment programmes. Once you speak to a hair loss specialist to obtain a professional diagnosis, they can tailor a personalised regrowth plan to your needs, featuring topical applications of minoxidil to combat thinning alongside Hair Vitalics dietary supplements to help strengthen your hair and improve its condition.
