Is Quentin Tarantino The New Comb-Over King?

Quentin Tarantino Hair LossIt was a hair loss title previously belonging to American business magnate and ardent right-winger Donald Trump, but it seems that there is a new heir is in line for the comb-over throne: director Quentin Tarantino.

Responsible for such classics as Pulp Fiction, Tarantino recently appeared in an interview to promote his new film Django Unchained, with popular Channel 4 news presenter Krishnan Guru-Murthy. When pressed by the presenter for an answer on a question about on-screen vs real violence, Tarantino got rather hot under the collar  saying: “I refuse your question, I’m not your slave!” which was arguably in rather poor taste considering the subject matter of his latest film.

Natural Born Hair Killers

Tarantino’s hair was also of interest, as it appeared to be noticeably thin at the hairline, and combed in a way that suggests that it could be concealing a receding hairline. Luckily for Tarantino, hundreds of men have treated similarly Trump-esque hairlines with high strength minoxidil 12.5% cream.

As minoxidil is dose dependent, the lower dose solutions that your GP might advise you to use will often not be enough to regrow hair, but a higher strength formulation can still be very effective. The cream or liquid can be applied directly to the areas of loss, and regrowth can occur in a matter of weeks, though for some patients it may take longer. There are also a variety of additional ingredients that can be combined with the minoxidil to potentially enhance its effect.

Minoxidil’s added ingredients can include Medroxyprogesterone (MPG), which appears to block DHT, the androgen that causes male pattern hair loss. Depending on his hair loss specialist’s assessment, Tarantino might also be advised to use a minoxidil solution which includes azelaic acid, which inhibits the enzyme 5-alpha reductase that combines with testosterone to form DHT. Finally, a third potential ingredient caffeine might help stop the affect of DHT when applied locally.

Inglorious Hairstyles

A tailored hair loss treatment programme for Tarantino would be built around both high strength minoxidil and  the only other clinically approved hair loss medication in the UK and the USA. This second medication is finasteride, available under the brand name Propecia in the necessary dose for hair loss treatment.

Propecia works by blocking the affect of powerful androgen DHT, which attacks hair follicles on top of the scalp in genetically pre-disposed people. DHT causes hair follicles to shrink, and as a result they produce weaker, wispier hairs, and after a period of time, no hairs at all.

Quentin should know that if he leaves his hair loss until areas become completely bald, he can no longer treat it medically. Luckily both Propecia and minoxidil are licensed by the MHRA and approved by the FDA to treat hair loss, and a tailored treatment programme built around these two medications gives the patient a really strong chance of preventing a descent into a Donald Trump comb-over situation.

Effective Treatment: It’s Not Pulp Fiction

There are also a number of other aspects to a treatment programme that Tarantino could benefit from. We would advise the use of various hair growth boosters, such as the FDA cleared LaserComb, which can speed up the rate of regrowth. A busy man like Quentin may also benefit from a nutritional supplement such as Hair Vitalics, which contains all the minerals and nutrients that hair needs to grow and stay healthy.
