Two years ago, we reported rumours that singer-turned-actor Justin Timberlake was losing his hair and using a “specially formulated shampoo to promote hair growth”.
As the Like I Love You singer announced his musical comeback and an upcoming performance at The Grammy Awards, his hair was visibly longer and appeared thicker than in previous years, could it be that JT has been medically treating his hair loss?
If Timberlake’s new hair is down to treatment, it’s likely that he’s been using more than shampoo to regrow his receding hairline. Medicated shampoos can help improve the condition of existing hair, but they cannot regrow it.
Bringing Hair Back?
Indeed, there are a lot of products on the market that make claims about hair loss, but there are only two clinically proven medications that can treat it, the first of which is minoxidil. Although it’s been a while since the SexyBack singer was papped wearing corns rows, both traction alopecia, which tight hairstyles and weaves can cause, and a receding hair line can be treated very effectively with this hair loss treatment.
The actual mechanisms behind why minoxidil treats hair loss so effectively are still unclear, but we do know that this is a dose dependent medication that, when applied directly to a receding hair line, can regrow hair in men experiencing pattern hair loss and various other conditions.
Difficult to treat areas of hair loss can be tackled with our combination high strength minoxidil creams that can provide up to a daily dose of 18% minoxidil, which far surpasses any over-the-counter treatments available.
JT may also be using Propecia, the only other hair loss medication which has been licensed by the MHRA, the UK’s medical regulatory body, and approved by its US counterpart, the FDA. Propecia is useful for improving the density of scalp hair, and can be very useful for treating a thinning crown. This daily oral medication can be taken consecutively with minoxidil and together they have formed the basis of many a successful hair loss treatment programme when combined with hair loss treatment boosters, rigorous check-ups and clinical treatment sessions.
If, however, JT isn’t using hair loss treatments, he might consider seeing a hair loss specialist to establish whether his hair line has begun to recede and if so, what measures he can take to ensure his hair line stays in the same place. We treat a lot of men in their twenties, and would encourage any man who has noticed either a general thinning of his scalp hair or a receding hair line to act sooner rather than later: even men in their late teens risk losing their hair permanently if thinning patches become bald and shiny.
