‘I’m 17 and My Hair is Thinning So Fast You Can See My Scalp’

Seventeen with thinning hairName: Sol

Question: I’m 17 and my hair is thinning so fast. and i am loosing so much hair in the front of my head that you can  see my scalp in the light please help

Answer: Hi, Sol. It sounds as if you are experiencing vertex thinning – where the hair thins on top of the head – although it could also be a receding hairline.

Both of these are classic signs of male pattern baldness, an hereditary condition which can start any time following puberty. For men who have this genetic predisposition, the condition can be triggered or made worse by stress and dietary factors so it is worth taking a look at your overall health to ensure you are following a balanced diet full of vitamins and minerals, and have an outlet for any pressure you may be under.

At 17 you are eligible to use certain hair loss treatments but you cannot use finasteride 1mg which is a daily pill to treat male hair loss and is only prescribed to men aged 18 and over.

At Belgravia we recommend high strength minoxidil – a topical solution applied directly to the affected areas – as the most effective way to combat a receding hairline and deal with stubborn thinning. This can be used from 16 years of age upwards, assuming you are deemed medically suitable. It can also be used with a number of hair growth boosters to support the action of this medication and help improve the general condition of your hair.
