The adult colouring book trend that has engulfed the world during the past 18 months seems to have come from out of nowhere, but it does in fact have a lot to do with mindfulness, being in the moment and stress reduction the roots of which go back centuries.

If you’re wondering how this links to hair loss, the answer is simple: stress plays a huge part in a variety of hair loss conditions. It can trigger the autoimmune disorder Alopecia Areata and it can be one of the main factors behind a condition called Telogen Effluvium, which leads to a general all-over thinning of the hair. In some cases, it can even accelerate the onset or rate of shedding in Male Pattern Baldness and Female Pattern Hair Loss.

I Love My Hair Colouring Book - De Stress MindfulnessA good place to start

De-stressing

alone is unlikely to fix a hair loss condition which is why hair loss specialists have everything from clinically-proven hair loss treatment medications to food supplements and hair growth boosters at their disposal but it is a good place to begin.

And thanks to a new adult colouring book entitled I Love My Hair, a few quiet moments alone with the felt-tip pens could be just the place to start if stress is an issue for you.

Andrea Pippins, the artist who created the book, recently told Mashable.com that, “Colouring is just something that’s fun and relaxing and easy to do. We all did it when we were kids why not do it as an adult? It’s meditative. It’s a form of therapy. It’s an escape.”

The artist goes on to explain how she hopes that her book will empower anyone who takes time to use it.

Think about hair

“I really wanted people to think about hair as something fun and light-hearted, but hair can also be seen as political or rebellious,” says Pippins. “I wanted to give individuals the power to think about hair the way they want to.”

While some people with a hair loss condition might not want to be reminded of all things hair-related, others are likely to find the book therapeutic a reminder not just of pleasant hair memories, but hopefully, with the right treatment, of happier hair days to come.
