Name: David Dowman
Question: Hello, I find it impossible to style my hair in the morning after apply minoxidil liquid. If I apply and leave for 30mins can I then wash my hair? Will this be counter productive to my treatment?
Answer: Hi, David. It is best to leave the minoxidil treatment on for as long as possible so that it has the best chance of being fully absorbed by your scalp.
If you want to rinse your hair after applying your minoxidil as you find this makes it easier to style, we recommend leaving the treatment on for at least 20 minutes first in order for it to sink in. Leaving it for 30 minutes as you suggest is fine but generally the longer you can leave it, the better.
Minoxidil should only affect the hair minimally. The majority of the liquid should go directly onto the scalp using ‘touch and tap’ motions. If you are massaging it into your scalp that may be where the problem lies as this will spread the minoxidil through your hair as well as your scalp – not to mention onto your fingers – and is also a less effective method of application.
If you are a Belgravia client it may be worth contacting your Treatment Advisor about arranging a refresher demonstration just to ensure you are applying the minoxidil correctly.
