Man Washing HairQuestion: Hello, I find it impossible to style my hair in the morning after apply minoxidil liquid. If I apply and leave for 30mins can I then wash my hair? Will this be counter productive to my treatment?

Answer: Hi, David. There is an easy solution to this problem: you can apply your minoxidil after styling your hair!

Simply style your hair and ensure the scalp is dry, then apply your drops through your hairstyle getting them as close to the scalp as possible so that they are applied directly to the scalp, rather than to the hair. Once you have done this you should find that the scalp feels dry to the touch after half an hour and does not affect your hairstyle, yet still allows you to get the maximum benefit from your minoxidil.

It is best to leave the minoxidil treatment on for as long as possible so that it has the best chance of being fully absorbed by your scalp. As such, it is inadvisable to be rinsing your hair after applying your minoxidil even if you leave it for half an hour first.

Minoxidil should only affect the hair minimally. The majority of the liquid should go directly onto the scalp using ‘touch and tap’ motions demonstrated and/or explained by your specialist. If you are massaging it into your scalp that may be where the problem lies as this will spread the minoxidil through your hair as well as your scalp – not to mention onto your fingers – and is also a less effective method of application.

If you are a Belgravia client it may be worth contacting your Treatment Advisor about arranging a refresher demonstration just to ensure you are applying the minoxidil correctly.
