He’s not known for his green fingers, but disgraced TV star Michael Barrymore has obviously given up on getting any TV gigs and resigned himself to a second career in the horticultural business, after he was papped volunteering at his local garden centre. However, rather than spending time on garden maintenance, the 60 year old might consider dedicating some time to addresssing his hair loss, instead.
According to the Daily Mirror, the ex Strike It Lucky host told shoppers at Tomlins in Brentwood, Essex that he didn’t get paid for his role, but was helping out as he enjoyed gardening. The comedian works at the garden centre up to three days a week, and has apparently become quite the local attraction.
A Potted Hair History
However, Barrymore’s hairline didn’t appear to be ready for a return to the spotlight, and the Kids Say The Funniest Things star seemed to be experiencing the thinning hair that 65% of men in their sixties are troubled by on account of male pattern hair loss.
This type of genetic balding cannot be cured, but if Barrymore wants to halt his hair and potentially regrow some of the thinning (providing that the areas to be treated aren’t shiny and bald) he could begin a hair loss treatment programme.
Such a programme would most likely contain Propecia, which is proven to treat hair loss by blocking DHT, the androgen that causes hair follicles atop the head to shrink and produce thinner, weaker hair. Propecia is licensed by the MHRA and approved by the FDA – the UK and US medical regulatory bodies respectively – as a hair loss treatment.
Barrow-More’s New Hobby
Another medication which has been clinically proven for hair loss is minoxidil. This topical liquid or high strength minoxidil cream is applied directly to the scalp twice a day, and appears to stimulate the growth of healthy hair even in stubborn patches of thinning. Barrymore might also find certain hair growth boosters, such as the FDA cleared LaserComb which can stimulate and speed up regrowth, can also help to keep his hair in its optimum condition.
So, should the star wish to keep his hair and prevent baldness, he should begin treatment before his hair reaches the stage when it can no longer be treated medically. A consultation with a hair loss specialist would enable a bespoke treatment plan to be created for Essex’s most famous gardener, enabling Barrymore to be camera-ready.
