Daniel Day-Lewis Picks Up Best Actor Oscar, But His Hair Can’t Keep Up

movies-daniel-day-lewis-press-room oscars hairIt was an emotional yet humorous Daniel Day-Lewis who picked up his third Oscar for best actor at the awards ceremony last night. The veteran actor picked up the gong for his role in the recently released biopic Lincoln, for which he has received much critical acclaim in his role as the American President. Interestingly, when we compare pictures of Day-Lewis when he accepted his first Best Actor Oscar for My Left Foot in 1990 to the present day, he seems to have experienced some hair loss.

A Presidential Speech

As he received his award from actress Meryl Streep, the acclaimed actor joked that he had in fact been lined up to play Margaret Thatcher in the 2011 film about her life starring Streep, but they had swapped roles at the last minute. Whilst prosthetic makeup was used to age Day-Lewis considerably for his role, he appeared to have retained the fairly short hair cut from the film, revealing a receding hairline.

What Are The Odds?

At the age of 55, the actor has a very good chance of experiencing the onset of male pattern baldness. The condition effects half of men by the age of 50, and whilst many men may take the hair loss medication Propecia, which is a great antidote to overall thinning of hair on account of its ability to block DHT, few men realise that there’s more they can do.

The only other clinically proven hair loss medication out there is minoxidil, which can be used consecutively with Propecia and is particularly effective at regrowing a receding hairline. Unlike Propecia, though, minoxidil is dose dependent, meaning that a hair loss specialist is required to asses your hair loss and choose the optimum strength for your condition.

Achieve Oscar-Ready Hair

Alongside various liquid formulations that are applied to the scalp directly, The Belgravia Pharmacy also produces a high strength minoxidil cream, which has shown remarkable results for many of our male patients, some of which had tried lower strength over-the-counter formulations to no avail.

Alongside these two medications, there are a number of hair growth treatment boosters that can be used alongside the medications to improve the hair’s condition, and potentially help it to grow back faster. Ranging from the FDA cleared LaserComb to our nutritional supplement Hair Vitalics. A comprehensive and tailored approach would be Day-Lewis’s best option to not only keep his hair thick, but to stop it receding, too.
