Hi,

I am a 28 year old proud African woman, who for years wore weaves, extensions, chemical relaxers... you name it, i had it. I have always had fine/thin afro textured hair but always abused it with the above hairstyles, leading to breakage and brittle dry hair. I recently visited the Belgravia Center as i developed two large bald spots, which i now know to be caused by chemical trauma. I was prescribed Minixodil 12.5% with 5% Azelaic Acid. (The bald spots are growing in nicely!) My point is this, African women really need to stop abusing their hair with hairstyles mentioned above and start to embrace there natural hair. It took me 18 years and bald spots to realise the beauty of my natural afro hair.

Solange cut her hair off and in my honest opinion she looks amazing. The picture shown here does her no justice. Google image her for yourself. I very much doubt that she was having a "Britney moment" but rather had enough of trying in vain to live up to an ideal of beauty that society has become accustomed to. This maybe a way of her saying, "hey, this is me!"

Hi Selena,
Solange took the plunge and chopped off her locks. There are various theories about why young women make such a drastic change to their image. It can be a bold, positive statement where a woman is embracing her independence and no longer feels the need to conform to 'stereotypical beauty ideals' such as long hair. Or it can be a sign of a woman going through a crisis, as seemed to be the case with Britney Spears.

While Solange seems to be happy with her new look, she was photographed shortly after having the haircut wearing a wig. Hopefully that was a one-off as wearing wigs too often can cause a type of hair loss called TRACTION ALOPECIA.
Traction Alopecia is usually a temporary condition however in some cases it can become more permanent or it can trigger genetic hair loss. In such cases it is possible to use a tailored HAIR LOSS TREATMENT PROGRAMME to maintain optimum hair growth.
