Chris Brown, rapper and on/off boyfriend of megastar Rihanna, has been photographed carrying a container of ‘Bronner Brothers Super Gro Hair Aid’. Whilst it was unclear whether the 23 year old was carrying the alleged hair growth treatment for personal use, he is certainly not the only man in his early 20′s who may be looking into treating hair loss.
Are Nutrients Enough?
The product promises to ‘relieve itchy scalps, splitting ends, and promote healthy hair with an abundance of rich minerals and nutrient’. However, if Brown is worried about thinning hair, he will need a comprehensive hair loss treatment programme containing at least one clinically proven hair loss medication that has been licensed by the MHRA and approved by the FDA.
Brown usually wears his hair in a short cropped style, occasionally bleaching it and covering up with hats. The bleach may cause existing hair to become dry and shed more quickly than it otherwise might have done, but it is unlikely that bleaching would cause permanent damage to the scalp. If Brown is experiencing hair loss in the form of an all over thinning, he is probably going through the onset of male pattern hair loss, which affects 95% of men who have noticed shedding.
The hair loss ointment carried by Brown will do no harm, and there’s every chance it will improve the look and feel of his existing hair, however it will not treat hair loss when used alone. The clinically proven hair loss medication Propecia can counteract the effects of male pattern hair loss, and it works by blocking androgen DHT, the product of testosterone bonding with enzyme 5-alpha reductase. DHT has a powerful effect on the hair follicles on top of the scalp, causing them to shrink and produce weaker and wispier hairs, and eventually they stop producing hairs at all.
Keeping You Options Open
Propecia is great for targeting all over thinning, including thinning on the crown of the head that can develop into a ‘bald spot’ if left untreated. Brown may also be interested in combining Propecia use with the other clinically proven hair loss medication minoxidil. Minoxidil is applied direct to the scalp, and comes in a variety of strengths, with liquid formulations often being combined with added ingredients that appear to block DHT in a variety of ways, these include MPG (Medroxyprogesterone), caffeine and azelaic acid.
If Brown is looking into ways to stop male pattern hair loss before it takes hold, he’s certainly one of many young men who are aware of the benefits of treating hair loss early. We would recommend that he sees a hair loss specialist to ensure that all bases are being covered in his treatment, and he might also consider using a variety of other treatment boosters alongside his nutritional supplement, such as the FDA cleared LaserComb, which can also treat hair loss and speed up hair regrowth.
