Choosing the Best Hair Loss Product for Women
Minoxidil is the only hair loss product that is proven to work for female hair loss. It is a topical solution that can be prepared in different strengths to treat various types of hair loss in women. Many products contain Minoxidil in a 2% concentration, however at Belgravia we prepare and prescribe Minoxidil 4% (+MPG) solution, Minoxidil 5% (+MPG) solution and an extra-strength Minoxidil 12.5% (+ Azelaic Acid) cream.
Medroxyprogesterone (MPG)
Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is the hormone which is responsible for genetic hair loss. MPG is an unproven product but it may help to reduce the effects of DHT on the hair follicles by working to improve the effectiveness of Minoxidil. When MPG is added to Minoxidil it becomes a prescription-only treatment, one which has produced impressive results for clients of Belgravia. These results can be seen by clicking on the success stories link below.
Azelaic Acid (AA)
AA is thought to reduce the amount of DHT reaching the hair follicles by inhibiting the formation of 5-alpha reductase, the enzyme that combines with testosterone to produce DHT. While it is an unproven product in itself, when added to Minoxidil 12.5%, it creates a unique, prescription-only treatment that can treat stubborn patches of hair loss. Minoxidil 12.5% (+AA) is available exclusively from the Belgravia Pharmacy.
Why choose these Minoxidil formulas?
MPG and AA act as a substitute for Propecia in treating Female Pattern Hair Loss. Propecia is the most effective treatment for combating genetic hair loss in men. It works by preventing DHT from reaching the hair follicles but it is not suitable for women to take. With many years experience treating hair loss, staff at the Belgravia Centre have found that the strength of Minoxidil that is prescribed has a significant impact on the success of treatment.
What about Minxodil 2%?
Minoxidil can be purchased in a 2% concentration however the Belgravia Centre has never prescribed this dosage. We work with products that achieve results. A double-blind study carried out in 2002 proved that a higher strength Minoxidil (5%) to be more effective for women with Female Pattern Hair Loss than Minoxidil 2%.
