As she walked the red carpet at the Oscars last night, Charlize Theron looked stunning in a plain white gown with an embellished peplum. However, unusually for an actress at an awards event, the South African was getting more attention for her hair style than her designer dress.
“Every Woman Should Do It”
As we recently reported, Charlize underwent the voluntary hair loss in preparation for her latest role in the film Mad Max: Fury Road. The Monster actress revealed on the red carpet that cutting her hair off was the most “freeing thing” that she had ever done. Clearly happy with her short blonde cut, the star added that she would: “highly recommend it. I think every woman should do it.”
However, the actress was also keen to establish that her current hairdo was a result of three months of regrowth, explaining that initially “it was so short.” Theron was also pleased to note that cutting it all off had enabled her to get rid of two bin bags full of hair care products.
“It Was So Short”
For many women who seek treatment with us, regrowing hair is at the top of their list of concerns. Hair loss from conditions such as alopecia areata and female pattern hair loss can be distressing, and not everyone is able to take to a short style with the same vigour as Theron.
Happily though, there is a clinically proven hair loss medication available to women called minoxidil, which can be tailored in terms of strength and added ingredients to suit each individual’s needs.
Minoxidil is applied twice daily to the scalp, and our formulations vary in strength from a 4% liquid up to a high strength minoxidil 12.5% cream. In our experience, the 2% formulation sold over the counter to women is often not sufficient to bring about significant regrowth on account of minoxidil being dose dependent, and off the shelf minoxidil also lacks the added ingredients that we combine with our minoxidil that appear to block DHT.
Regrow Hair Fast
DHT is the androgen that causes female pattern hair loss, a very common type of shedding that is caused by genetics, and so cannot be ‘cured’ but can be managed to prevent further loss. The medication Propecia (used by men to block DHT) is not suitable for use by women, though in our experience MPG (Medroxyprogesterone), caffeine, and azelaic acid appear to achieve similar results to DHT.
Treatment boosters, such as the LaserComb, can also help the condition of hair and the rate of regrowth, and are combined with medication to form our widely successful hair loss treatment programmes. Whilst these hair growth boosters cannot by themselves regrow hair, they help ensure that your regrowth is in its best possible condition.
We also like to monitor the progress of our patients via consultations where high res photographs allow us to measure your progress closely; you can take a look at our vast archive of before and during treatment photos taken at consultations which provide an idea of the great results that can potentially be achieved.
