Question: I am an afro-caribbean 26 year old woman and have had my hair in a corn-row style since I was about 12 years old.  Where the hair has been pulling there are areas of hair loss that are getting wider and wider.  How can I stop this?

Answer: Well the first and most obvious course of action is to remove your corn-rows immediately.  This is the cause of the hair loss and as long as they are pulled tight the areas of baldness will stretch wider and wider.  The condition is called Traction Alopecia and minoxidil cream can be successful in treating it.  Results depend on the extent of the hair loss and how much the hair follicles have been damaged by the constant pulling.  Generally, smooth areas of hair loss will not be restored but quite frequently thin areas of hair can be thickened up.

Question:  I’m 28years old and have been using an herbal treatment for hair loss.  The ingredients seem to block DHT and supply the proper nutrients to body.  My question is can I use minoxidil 12.5% + azelaic acid along with my present treatment?

Answer:  Yes you can.  Minoxidil 12.5% + azelaic acid can be used with any other hair loss treatment as long as you are suitable for the medication.

Question:  When i started to have thin hair around the age of Eight years old i was not extremely self conscious but i was aware of it. I had acne on my head and grew into a habit of picking at it. I don’t think that my condition has gotten worse over the years but if it has do you think picking at it may have caused it? Also have you ever had a patient who started the thinning of their hair at such an early age as myself? Has the treatment worked for them and is it abnormal for my condition to have started from such an early age?

Answer:  I have never heard of anybody beginning to lose their hair at such an early age unless it is related to alopecia areata (patchy hair loss that can lead to complete hair loss).  I have also never heard of a person experiencing acne at such an early age - this is usually a condition that begins at puberty.  There could be a number of reasons for the hair loss - alopecia areata (as explained above), traumatic alopecia caused from the scarring of whatever skin disorder you were experiencing or as a result of pulling on the hair.  I would advise that you either visit the centre for a tricho-check or complete an on-line diagnostic form in order for a Belgravia trichologist to have more information in order to work out the reasons for your hair loss and recommend a suitable course of treatment if applicable.

Question:  I am a Nigerian, and very interested in using your products for my hair loss.  How can this happen?

Question:  Can you please advise why your 12.5% minoxidil comes in cream form and not solution?

Answer:  We only produce minoxidil 12.5% in cream form as minoxidil in liquid form crystallises when stronger than 5% concentration.  A cream ensures as much of the minoxidil as possible is effective and absorbed.

Question:  I’m 27 years old and have been losing my hair for about a year now.  I’ve tried Nourkrin but it hasn’t really done much to help.  The thinning seems to be confined to the top of my head as my hairline seems to be further apart than it used to be but round the back and sides my hair looks thick.  I also see a lot of hair on my pillow and the back of my clothes which I find quite embarrassing.  I really want to do something about it but the things I’ve tried have sort of dashed my hopes.  Can anything else be done?

Answer:  It sounds like you’re experiencing genetic hair loss (or ‘female pattern hair loss‘).  The treatments that are proven to be most effective in treating women’s hair loss are minoxidil and the LaserComb so one, or both of these should be more effective than anything you have currently tried.  As part of a treatment course they will ensure a high chance of hair loss stabilisation or regrowth.

Question: Hi. I’m 24yrs old. I’ve always had thin hair, but as time as gone by it has been getting worse, especially since I had my son. It’s hard for me to keep my hair open because it just looks really bad, you can just see my scalp. It’s really annoying because my hair stops me from going out the house, my confidence and self esteem as gone down. I’m thinking of hair transplant because there’s no other way I see for me to have strong and lots of hair.

Answer: Have you tried any forms of treatment? We always advise using a medicated treatment course before having a hair transplant as there’s a good chance of not only stabilising your hair loss, but also regrowing hair. QUESTION: I’m a 24 year old man and for the last month or so I’ve been noticing hair on my pillow. I’m not sure if I’m losing my hair or just being paranoid - perhaps it’s something that’s always happened but I’ve just never noticed. I also notice a lot of hair coming out when I put gel in my hair in the morning. My hair’s in a short cropped style and doesn’t look thin to me, although my hair dresser did mention that it’s looking a bit thinner around the top-back area. Do you have any advice??

ANSWER: This is something that I am asked frequently - “is my hair actually falling out or am I just being over observant?”

It’s likely that if you’ve suddenly started noticing it you hair most probably is beginning to fall out. Although people’s hair is naturally programmed to shed, it is not usually a noticeable amount unless excessive shedding is being experienced, especially when the hair is short. It sounds like you’re probably experiencing the very early stages of Male Pattern Hair Loss, although this cannot be confirmed without an examination.

There’s no need to worry though, as the earlier you catch your hair loss, the better.
