Katie Price Pays the Price for Extensions

Posted on April 4th, 2012 by Chriss, under Female Hair Loss, Hair Loss, Hair Loss News | No Comments | Ask A Question

Katie Price Gatwick Hair Extensions The Belgravia CentreFormer glamour model Katie Price (also known as Jordan), recounted the toll taken on her body by her experiments with various cosmetic treatments. As famous for her oversized breasts as her complicated love life, Price says she now regrets her obsession with plastic surgery which she claims have permanently ruined her looks.

Throughout the interview, Katie Price detailed the toll taken by her beauty regime including an expensive obsession with Botox, six separate breast augmentation procedures and using sun beds four times a week. These procedures come on top of a one-off liposuction session, a rhinoplasty operation to “correct” a bump in her nose, the application of £25,000 worth of tooth veneers and a hair extension replacement every three months for twelve years.

Experts agree that many of the treatments, particularly those which have been repeated time and again could have lasting negative health implications for Price’s health as well as her appearance.

Hair Extensions

Katie Price has always made it clear that the appearance of her hair is extremely important to her; “My hair is my life,” she was once famously quoted as saying. To maintain her tresses, Price has new extensions fitted every three months, a practice she has followed religiously for the past twelve years.

It is believed that each extension session costs around £6000 and sees Price receive real human hair grafted onto her own, helping to maintain the illusion of thick, flowing hair. It is believed that Price has used salons in both Britain and America in the past, in her quest for the perfect head of hair.

Falling Outs

Last year, Katie Price experienced a significant amount of hair loss brought on, she said, following the application of a £11,000 set of extensions by a Hollywood-based hairdresser. So distraught was Price that she immediately sought legal advice with a view to taking action against the stylist involved.

The hair loss was costly both emotionally and financially, reputedly costing £45,000 to rectify. Price still feels acutely hurt by the hairloss. “I’ve had a bald patch at the sides. It’s awful,” she said, “Without it [my hair] I feel disgusting.’

What is Causing the Hair Loss?

There are several potential causes of female hair loss , some more common than others. Although some people have a genetic predisposition to thinning hair, in Katie Price’s case, the problem appears to be self-inflicted.

Photographs taken in May last year as Price arrived back at Gatwick Airport clearly demonstrate the tension which her is placed on her own hair by her extensions. Extensions are fitted as close as possible to the root of the recipient’s own hair, pulling at the root, potentially causing pain and damaging the hair follicle in the process.

Tight braiding, hair weaves and frequent application of extensions have all been known to give rise to a condition known as Traction Alopecia. Hair is gradually lost due to constant pulling at the root, something which by their very design hair extensions do. The damaged hair follicle has problems growing fresh hair leading to areas of patchy growth. Ironically, women like Katie Price immediately turn to a fresh set of extensions to cover any patches of lost hair, which in turn exacerbates the problem.

How to Fix Hair Loss Caused by Hair Extensions?

As soon as a woman becomes aware of hair loss caused by their extensions, rather than have it covered up by a hairdresser, they should seek the advice of a professional hair loss expert. The first step to encouraging hair regrowth is to take a break from extensions so that the hair has a chance to grow back naturally.

A hair loss expert, such as those employed by The Belgravia Centre, will be able to examine thinning patches and provide an accurate diagnosis as to the cause. With a diagnosis in place, the hair loss expert will be able to create a treatment plan tailored to the client’s exact needs. This may take the form of a clinically proven treatment such as Minoxidil which is a scientifically proven medication for treating hair loss in women approved by the MHRA, as well as a number of possible hair growth boosters such as the Hair Vitalics dietary supplement or the HairMax LaserComb. These treatments would also be monitored during regular visits to the London clinic to track progress and adjust the treatment plan as required.

We understand Katie Price’s devotion to her hair and that of our other clients which informs everything we do at The Belgravia Centre. Our bespoke treatment plans have an impressive track record backed by hundreds of success stories.

How to get hair like Donald Trump’s, without the comb over!

Posted on April 3rd, 2012 by Chriss, under Hair Loss, Hair Loss News, Male Hair Loss | No Comments | Ask A Question

Donald Trump's Hair 2 The Belgravia CentreDonald Trump has been the butt of jokes for many years for his questionable hairstyle that looks like a careful attempt at hiding a significant case of balding and hair loss. The gravity defying bouffant has long been thought to hide a large bald patch on the crown of his head, but during an interview Trump claimed, ‘I get a lot of credit for comb-overs. But it’s not really a comb-over.’

Despite his protestations however, photographs taken in gusts of winds suggest that Trump may be fooling himself more than the general public.

Getting the Trump Look

Trump has detailed his unusual hair styling regime claiming that nothing more than Head & Shoulders shampoo, and some elaborate comb manoeuvres are required. According to Trump all that is needed is to wash one’s hair every day using the aforementioned shampoo before allowing his or her hair to air dry naturally, taking around an hour.

Once the hair is dry it is then combed ‘a little bit forward and back’ until the required volume has been achieved. The whole process takes nearly an hour and a half at the start of each day.

The Trump Costs in Time and Dignity

The major problem with the Trump style, other than it’s unusual appearance, is the sheer amount of time it takes in order to create the same voluminous comb-over. As one of the richest men in the world, Donald Trump can easily afford to spend ninety minutes each morning reading the papers whilst waiting for his hair to dry. For the less well-off, ninety minutes per day amounts to seven-and-a-half hours every week – the equivalent of a standard working day. During the course of a year, a man electing to go down the Trump route of hair loss denial, stands to lose 390 hours – more than 16 days in total.

There is a Better Way

Rather than try and make what hair remains cover thinner patches like Donald Trump, a far better course of action is to obtain advice from a hair loss expert who will be able to suggest ways to promote hair regrowth. Here at The Belgravia Centre we see men (and women) who experience all manner of hair loss symptoms, including male pattern balding like that seen in Donald Trump’s unflattering photographs.

Using clinically proven medications and hair Growth Boosters our clients can restore their hairline, spare themselves the embarrassment of a questionable comb-over and save a considerable portion of their life which would otherwise be spent on a dodgy hair style. By restoring their own hair, clients also find that their self-esteem and personal performance is boosted as a direct result.

Tailored to the unique needs of the client, Belgravia’s treatment plans are specially created to promote hair regrowth according to their specific needs, ensuring the maximum possible chance of success. Regardless of how long a client has been losing hair, The Belgravia Centre is confident of preventing further loss and encouraging a return of the hair line.

In Trump’s case, his bouffant hair has all but become a trademark, as famous as his name. A return of ‘real’ hair in place of the comb-over would generate further column inches in the media for Trump.

For men and women noticing hair loss for the first time, seeking professional advice from a hair loss expert as soon as possible also allows the chance to begin a treatment plan quickly, just like those men and women who feature in our hair loss success stories did. The faster hair regrowth can be started, the less chance that a person will resort to an unconvincing, Trumpesque comb-over and the embarrassment associated with it.

So to save your time and blushes, contact us to arrange a free, no obligation consultation and we can get started on restoring your hair loss now. Alternatively you can fill in our online diagnositic form that will enable us to design a personalised course of treatment that can be sent to you wherever you are in the world.

MK Hair Art The Belgravia Centre

MK’s imagination knows no bounds with his current designs taking their inspiration from the Olympics

A barber from Cheshunt has created his own novel homage to the forthcoming London Olympics by creating a series of unusual hair styles he calls ‘hair art’. Mucktaru Kargbo, or MK as he is known, specialises in creating two and three-dimensional hairstyles, incorporating hair sculptures, hair tattoos and bright colouring.

Ultimately MK hopes to get his work featured in official Olympic coverage to get his work noticed. “I just want to feature the work that I do,” he said, “whether it is getting my hairstyles in the opening ceremony or on TV. I am going to keep going.”

MK may do all of the styling freehand, but he carefully plans all of his designs on paper prior reaching for the clippers, “There is no room for error in my work because if I mess up I have to wait two to three weeks before the hair grows again,” he explains. “Whereas a painter can just paint over their mistake and a graffiti artist can just spray over it, there is just no option for that with what I do.”

Currently MK is creating a design to immortalise the canoe slalom event in hair art. The 34-year-old hopes that the finished style will feature a canoe with moving oars.

The Mystery of Engelbert Humperdinck’s Impressive Hair

Posted on March 30th, 2012 by Chriss, under Hair Loss, Hair Loss News, Male Hair Loss | No Comments | Ask A Question

Engelbert Humperdinck The Belgravia CentrePhotographed earlier this month as he strolled near his Los Angeles home with his wife, Engelbert Humperdinck looked every one of his 75 years of age. Yet despite being heavily wrinkled and somewhat portly, the Eurovision hopeful still sports an impressively full head of hair.

Around three-quarters of men the same age as Engelbert Humperdinck will have experienced some form of hair loss, yet despite his hairline receding a little at the temples, his hair is still growing strong on the rest of his head. So impressive is Humperdinck’s hair retention that many media watchers have long debated what the secret to his hairline success might be.

Does ‘The Hump’ wear a rug?

The lustrous, bouffant hair worn by Humperdinck during much of his career has occasionally come under suspicion of being some form of hairpiece, but to date there is little evidence to confirm this theory. The fact that Engelbert has managed to retain the same unnaturally black colour for 50 years has done nothing to dispel the rumours of a hairpiece.

To his credit, Humperdinck openly admits that he has been dyeing his hair for the past half-century since first noticing grey hair at the age of 25. The receding hair around his temples would suggest that Engelbert’s hair is either real, or he has one of the most sophisticated wigs we have ever seen.

Is there another possibility?

Engelbert Humperdinck could be one of the minority of men who do not experience any significant hair loss as they age, thereby ending any speculation. It is however perfectly possible that Engelbert has sought hair loss advice prior to it becoming noticeable.

Men who observe hair loss early on and seek professional advice can, with a bespoke hair loss treatment programme that includes clinically proven medications, halt further hair thinning. These same MHRA-licensed medications have also been proven to promote natural hair regrowth. By seeking treatment as soon as the symptoms of hair loss become apparent, men and women can begin replacing lost hair before it is noticed by others.

New Theory about Male Pattern Baldness

Kyran Bracken’s Hair Transplant Woes

Kyran Bracken Hair Transplant The Belgravia Centre

Kryan Bracken before (left) and after his hair treatment (right). 'My hair loss did knock my self-confidence. When I went out I would feel paranoid about it,' he said

Speaking with The Daily Mail newspaper this week, former rugby star Kyran Bracken has discussed the less-than-perfect results of his hair transplant operation which has left him with patchy baldness similar to that for which he originally sought treatment. The 2007 Dancing on Ice star first noticed the signs of male pattern balding in his early twenties and, determined to avoid the thinning hairline to which his father succumbed, sought out a surgical solution.

Apart from experiencing normal scarring on the back of his scalp where the healthy hair was taken for transplantation, Bracken found that within a few weeks of the operation the new hair fell out. This is a relatively common side-effect of the procedure, and the newly transplanted hair follicles should resume normal growth shortly afterwards.

Twelve months later Bracken noticed another problem. The hair surrounding the newly implanted follicles had resumed thinning, creating new bald patches in the ‘old’ hair.

Bracken is not alone

Bracken is not alone in having on-going problems with hair loss following his transplant. Some patients report extreme reactions to the procedure where their hair goes into ‘shock’ and falls out. This shock can affect both the newly implanted hair and the remaining hairline, leaving the patient feeling even worse than before.

Leonora Doclis, one of The Belgravia Centre’s senior hair loss experts said: “Hair transplantation can do wonders particularly on a receding hair line but one must then regrowth treatments to retain the ‘old’ hair, around the transplant.”

Regarding Bracken, Doclis went on to say: “Perhaps Kyran did not use any preventative treatments, hence he noticed bald patches a few years after his transplant procedure. A number of hair loss treatments and hair growth boosters are highly successful in preventing further hair loss and in the majority of cases, stimulating hair regrowth.”

Preventative hair loss treatment without surgery

These hair loss treatments are also effective before undergoing surgery and in most cases can halt further shedding and promote regrowth. Combined with one of The Belgravia Centre’s unique, personalised treatment plans, many men and women experiencing pattern balding can regrow lost hair without having to submit to the surgeon’s knife.

Said Doclis: “Using treatment at the onset, or early stages of balding boosts your chance of regrowth. For this reason, it is often better to be proactive by treating hair loss earlier rather than letting hair loss reach an advanced stage.” The Belgravia Centre therefore advises men and women to seek professional advice as soon as they notice a receding hairline or thinning crown as Kyran Bracken did in his twenties.

“I would like to say that everyone was very friendly and helpful.  From the receptionist to Ms Daiva Valioniene, who was very kind and understanding, and to Ms Trinity Gardiner, who discussed my treatment and helped me make my choice. It was very nice feeling to know that I am not alone in this and that I do have support.. Looking forward to coming back.”

“Maria’s a nice specialist, I felt comfortable talking to her and she explained me well of my own problems.  Pam, she’s a lovely lady, helpful and more friendly. Even when I was about to leave the clinic, she came towards me and asked me how I felt during the treatment.  Reception greeted me once I opened the door, the clinic has so many caring staff members.”

“I was quite happy with the staff and the service at the Belgravia Centre.  Cisca Van Rensburg, she explained clearly my situation and answered all my questions and made me feel comfortable as I didn’t have any concerns after the examination.  Shamima was quite friendly.  I liked the way she discussed and described the treatment. I didn’t feel like a patient when I was talking to her I felt like I was talking to a friend.  Also, as she was having the same treatment she talked about her situation as well and gave me examples which was a really nice thing.  In reception there wasn’t any queue, I was welcomed by the staff as long as I stepped in. I filled a form quickly and didn’t wait much for the examination which is a quite good thing.  Generally, I was satisfied with the service at Belgravia Centre and I would definitely recommend to anyone who suffers from the same problem.”

“The Service received was great since I was greeted as soon as I walked through the door.  My preconceptions before I got to the centre was that it was going to be a top notch environment which made me feel slightly nervous. When I actually got there I found the centre to be top notch but modest at the same time which seemed to dilute those preconceptions.”

“I found all staff I encountered polite and professional and having walked in off the street was facilitated with an appointment straight away.  Likewise when I needed to change the time of my appointment the following day this was done immediately to suit my commitments.  A very good service.”
